Kirby Wilson

1919 - 2011

Born in Hazel Valley, Ark., Sept. 13, 1919, Kirby found his way to Idaho and married his wife Phyllis and served in the Sea Bees during World War II. After the war years they owned and operated Wilson's Variety Store in Homedale, Idaho. Later they purchased Scholer's Jewelry Store in Burley, Idaho. Kirby was a watchmaker and repaired the watches for many customers at both stores.
After retiring from the Jewelry store, Kirby was the Director of Transportation for the Burley School district. He and Phyllis later moved to Sweet Home, Ore. where he served as Director of Transportation for the Sweet Home School District. Upon retirement they returned to Idaho. During their years in Homedale and Burley, Kirby served on the local school boards as a member and chair.
During his life, Kirby used his carpenter skills and built four homes for his family; one in Homedale, one in Burley, and two in Sweet Home. He also served in leadership positions in the Christian Churches of Idaho and Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis, one granddaughter, a brother in Texas and one in Arkansas. Also surviving are daughters Patty in Alaska, Tanya of Colorado and sons Dan and John of Oregon. His most recent home was in California with his wife Virginia and her five children. There are also grandchildren and great-grandchildren in several states. He is also survived by three sisters and three brothers.
Kirby asked that any remembrances of him be directed to a children's charity of your choice.
The family will welcome friends at a viewing, which will take place at Dakan Funeral Chapel, Thursday, May 5 from 5-7 p.m. in Caldwell, Idaho.
