October 21, 1938 - July 18, 2013
Ada M. Hamilton, 74, of Caldwell, died Thursday, July 18, 2013, at a Boise hospital. The cause of death was septic shock.
Ada was born October 21, 1938, in LaGrande, Oregon, to James and Opal (Ortloff) Hixson, and graduated from Durkee High School. While attending high school she played on the boys' basketball team. (They needed girls to have enough players.) She earned a letterman's jacket. A friend introduced her to Donald "Donnie" Hamilton. They married in March 1957, and moved to Adrian, Oregon. While raising her children and being a homemaker, she also volunteered at the County Extension Office in Ontario, Oregon. The family moved to Caldwell in 1972, where Ada worked for the J.R. Simplot Company before beginning her long career with the Southwest District Health Department. Part of her job involved serving as county registrar. Ada was an avid bowler and a member of the Caldwell Women's Bowling Association for several years. Ada had a sense of curiosity for everything, from books to movies, food, and travel. She enjoyed visiting her daughter in Florida and most recently went on a cruise to Alaska with longtime friends. She had a generous spirit and you could count on her to always answer the phone or the door. She did not mind the "pop in" visit and was never too busy to talk with her children just to chat, offer advice, or do whatever was needed.
Ada was preceded in death by her husband, Don and her brother, Jim.
Ada is survived by her daughter, Tina, of Orlando, Florida and son, Jeff, of St. Anthony, Idaho.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2013, 1:00 pm at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. A private internment will be held at Roswell Cemetery at a later date.
Ada's family and friends will miss her.
