Francis Wardlaw Obituary

Frances Glen Wardlaw
September 2, 1930 - March 24, 2013
Glen Wardlaw was born September 2, 1930 in Gravette, Arkansas to Everett Dee and Eva Wardlaw. When he was 5 years old, he rode in the back of an old Ford pickup from Gravette to Dead Ox Flats, a homestead area near Ontario, Oregon. He and his parents dug a farm out of 160 acres of desert and earned 80 of them for their efforts. Glen graduated from Ontario High School and began his college career at Northwest Nazarene College. When the Korean War started, Glen joined the Navy and spent four years as a personnel officer. He came back to NNC to finish his education, where he fell in love with the perfect woman for him, Mary Moore. They were married in 1955. In 1958, Glen moved his wife and 3 children to Denver, Colorado to continue his education in speech therapy and audiology at the University of Denver. In 1969, after earning his Master's degrees in Audiology and Speech Pathology while working for school districts in Colorado, Glen and his family moved back to Nampa, Idaho, where Glen spent the rest of his career working for the Nampa Public School District. Over the years, he tested the hearing of thousands of kindergartners and provided speech therapy to hundreds of children. Teachers all over Nampa looked forward to Glen visiting their buildings-he could massage a knot out of the stiffest neck, and his hand massages made everybody feel relaxed and cared for.
Glen loved his family. His children will always remember Sunday afternoons in Washington Park and late night games of Rook around the dining room table with their dad and the cousins. They will remember riding the toboggan behind their dad down the steep hill at Tiny Town with their mom yelling at him to "Sit down before you kill yourself!" Glen loved to hunt and fish and raise beef cattle, and he taught his son and grandsons to love these activities as well. For decades, Glen kept his family members' freezers full of deer and beef. He loved working in the church nursery at College Church of the Nazarene, and was fondly known by dozens of children as Grandpa Glen. For years, he and his brother David chopped down and cut up dead trees in the fall so they could share the wood with widow ladies from the church and community. At Christmas time, people all over Nampa knew Glen as Santa Claus. This last Christmas, Glen was too tired and frail to don the Santa suit, and when his wife of 58 years passed away on March 10, he quickly followed her to his heavenly home.
Glen died on March 24, 2013, 2 weeks after Mary died. He is survived by his children Carol (Mike) Poe, Steven (Theresa) Wardlaw and Glenda (Michael) Duggan, 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many extended family members and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the general scholarship fund at Northwest Nazarene University, 623 University Blvd. Nampa, Idaho, 83686. Glen and Mary's family would like to thank Harrison's Hope Hospice, and Comfort Keepers for their excellent and loving care of both their parents. Special thanks to Edina, Amber, Tammy and George.
Glen's funeral will be at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 1st at College Church of the Nazarene in Nampa. Family visitation and viewing will take place on Easter Sunday from 5-7 PM at Alsip's Funeral Chapel in Nampa, and at College Church during the hour prior to the funeral. Burial at Hillcrest Cemetery will immediately follow the service.
Glen never met a stranger. He loved people, he loved life and he loved the Lord. We, his family and friends, thank God for the gift that he was to each one of us. To share a memory of Glen or to offer condolences to Glen's family please visit www.alsippersons.com

Mr. Wardlaw was my 8th grade core class teacher at Kuna Jr High School. He was always one of my favorite teachers. You had a wonderful Father. I kept up with some of the things that he and our mom did through my mother, Mary Harman, who was a teacher in the Kuna and Nampa school districts. He will certainly be missed by the Nampa community. You, he and your mom will be in my prayers.

I met Glen many years ago while at College Church. He was always such an encouragement! What a wonderful man! May your family be comforted by the Lord's presence during your difficult moments...and may you experience joy as you are mindful of his eternal celebration with his Heavenly Father.

I always enjoyed working with Glen at various schools. He and I also "worked out" at St. Alphonsus Rehab, and I always looked forward to seeing him there. His was a life well-lived.

I would just like to add a memory of mine about your Dad which was not mentioned in his obituary. He taught school in Kuna 1957 and I was in his Dramatics Class. It was a fun class and I don't know if I learned to much but I remembered him as a very kind and gentle man who loved to talk. I didn't see him again for some years. One summer about 10 year later, my daughter was ready for Nazarene girls camp and I took her to College Church to ride their bus to McCall and guess who was the driver, sure enough, your Dad. He knew me immediately and after that I would see him around Nampa and always he knew me even as I was getting older. Just a good person.
I am so sorry you lost your Mom and Dad so close together however for them it was perfect!
