Harry Larson Obituary

Harry Clifford Larson, 89, of Blackfoot, Ida., passed away April 26, 2011, at the Blackfoot Gables Assisted Living with family by his side.
He was born Dec. 16, 1921, in Tekamah, Neb., to Peter Gilbert and Olga Nelson Larson. He grew up on a farm near Craig, Neb., where he graduated from Oakland High School.
He entered the Army Air Corps in October 1942, and served his country as part of the 370 Air Service Squadron during World War II, stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines. He received an honorable discharge in January 1946.
During that time he met the love of his life, Ardis Berniece Wenke. They married May 3, 1944, in Nebraska. They made their home in Moreland, Ida.
He was employed for 27 years by the Atomic Energy Commission in shipment security.
After his retirement, he attended ISU Votech and studied small office machine repair and worked for Gem Typewriter in Chubbuck for a few years.
After the death of his wife, Ardis, he moved to Boise, Ida. Even though he remarried two times, he met his "Sweetie" Velma Sanders of Nampa, at a dance and has enjoyed her companionship for over 15 years.
He resided in Nampa, for 14 years before returning to Blackfoot in 2008 to be near family.
He was a member of the Lutheran Church. He enjoyed gardening which came from his farmboy roots in Nebraska.
During his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing and developed a passion for dancing after moving to Boise. He also enjoyed writing poetry and music.
He is survived by two daughters, Sally (Leonhard), Scheiderlein of Hillsboro, Ore., and April (Steven) Waldron of Blackfoot; three grandchildren, JoVonn (Steve) Hurst of Boise, Ryan (Amanda) Waldron of Rock Springs, Wyo., and Eden (Derick) Adams of Blackfoot; six great-grandchildren with one great-great grandchild due this fall.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Ardis, son, John G. Larson, who died in Vietnam and a grandson, Troy Young.
"Remember - do not grieve over my passing on, be happy for all the good and happy times I've had. When you witness a beautiful sunset or a rainbow, think about me."
The family would like to thank the staff of the Blackfoot Gables and Blackfoot Home Health and Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion during this time.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, May 2, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot.
Visitation is from 10-10:45 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.
