Jack Stuart Obituary

Jack Donald Stuart
February 28, 1922 - July 11, 2013
Jack Donald Stuart, 91, of Nampa, passed away on July 11, 2013. He was born February 28, 1922, at The Dallas, Oregon, the son of George and Lizzie Bell (Million) Stuart, the first born of seven children. His family moved to Garfield, Washington in his early years. They moved to Nampa, in 1936. Jack graduated from Nampa High School in 1940.
Jack worked in the Oregon Shipyards in 1941 and 1942. He joined the navy on Sept 15, 1942 at Boise. He began active service on Nov 10, 1942 at the Naval Operating Base in Norfolk, Va. He served at the Naval Operating Base in Palermo, Sicily on the USS Brooklyn CL-40 April 1944. Awarded the European African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on December 8, 1945. After his service to his country he worked in the Shipyards in Los Angeles. He worked for 30 years at the Pacific Fruit Express until his retirement in 1982.
Dad's sense of humor was unique and you never knew what he was going to come up with. While reading some of his letters that he had written while in the Navy, to the folks back home, we found one in which he had written, "We got to see the fourth of July fireworks a couple days late in the form of an air-raid. Somebody yelled air-raid and I woke up looked out and the sky was full of red tracer bullets and very pretty." July 7, 1943, North Africa.
He attended Lakeview Church of the Nazarene from the time he was a boy and faithfully took his family as it grew. Dad enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and his many friends. He was president of the Junior Old Timers when younger and was a member of Narve. Because he worked for the railroad we had many fun trips on the train. Dad loved to travel taking us on a yearly vacation with many happy times. He and Mom liked to dance; they took swing dance lessons and went to many dances.
Jack met his darling Daisy, his wife of 66 years in the Dewey Palace Hotel where she worked. Dad tells it, "Mom told her girlfriends to stay away from him he's mine!" From the time of their marriage they made their home in City Acres until 1964 they moved into the old green house on Sunnyridge which his dad had built back in 1936, while they built a new home next door which they lived in for the next 45 years.
Jack is survived by his 6 children and their spouses, daughters Sylvia Schmidt (Terry), Vickie Search (Leon), Karen Robertson (John), Ginger Westerberg (Richard), and Kristy Corson (Mike), and son Don Stuart (Shelley) Two brothers Fred and David Stuart. He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved sister Madge who died as a child his other 3 sisters Margaret, Ella Mae, and Mary and a grandson Gregory Levi Stuart.
Dad as we told you many times "You are the best dad ever!" He loved his kids unconditionally and more importantly was an excellent example by the way he loved and cared for our mother. He will be sorely missed but we shall see him again, he was at peace and ready to see the Lord Jesus, our mother, and all his loved ones in Heaven.
We wish to give a special thanks to the family of the Hammond-In-Home care, Gary and Billie Hammond, Jason and Monique Allen and their children Brenton and Bailey. Billie loved and cared for our father as she did her own. He thought of Monique as his special Valentine. Gary spent many hours talking with Dad about the Navy and P.F.E. And along with his and Gary's mutual friends, Ray and Carl, relived his fishing and hunting stories. We also wish to give a special thank you to Hearts and Home Hospice for their excellent service and support. Especially, his nurse Theresa and the social worker Liz.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lakeview Church of the Nazarene, Nampa Lighthouse, or Veteran's of America.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 19, 2013 at the Lakeview Church of the Nazarene. A viewing will be held prior to the services from 10 to 11 am at the church. Burial with military rites by the U.S. Navy will follow in the Kohlerlawn Cemetery, Nampa. Arrangements are under the direction of the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel.
