Joseph Raymond Mahaffey was born in Hamlin, TX to William and Virgie. He was #4 of 7 children. Ray had aspirations of traveling around the world and joined the Merchant Marines in 1943. He would save all that he earned so he could support his mother and two younger sisters. After being Honorably Discharged in 1947 he moved to Downey, CA and became a truck driver for Cantley & Tanzola, Inc. He was a member of the teamsters Local #224 and #483.
In 1968 he relocated to Parma, Idaho where he started his fuel & oil distribution business "Mahaffey Oil". He was highly respected by his customers, fellow business owners and his community of Parma where he was very generous and always a helping hand. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in CA and the Elks Lodge of Caldwell.
He retired in 2001 and moved in with his eldest daughter Beverly and first born granddaughter Cassi in Reno, NV.
He is survived by his sister Lilly Cornelius of Sacramento, CA, his daughter Beverly Mahaffey and granddaughter Cassi of Reno,Nv, Daughter Ruby Weideman and his granddaughters Alyse, Lexi, Alaina, Layla and grandson Landon of Weiser, ID. He was a devoted father, grandfather and a good steward of his community, he will be dearly missed.
