Larry Eugene Zechmann, 72, Is "off on a new adventure," after losing his battle with bladder cancer on May 3, 2013.
Larry was born to Frank and Alma in Pierce County, Nebraska on May 18, 1940. Three pesky but wonderful younger brothers followed: Tom (Loureen), Bill (Cindy), and Dennis (Gayle) remained his life-long friends and golf partners as they stayed within arms reach of each other over the years.
Larry was a student of life who loved to learn and had a passion for many things. He played baseball for the Nampa Bulldogs and carried his love of the game through the day he died. He enjoyed all things outdoors, including hunting, fishing, camping, golfing, birding, and gardening. He loved woodworking and crafting special projects for his kids and grandkids. He lived for the moment and his "cup was always full," especially if it was filled with cheap beer and tomato juice!
Larry had the ability to make everybody feel special. All of his friends were also family. He was a confidant to many, and his soft-spoken demeanor and warm heart helped people through troubled times. His warmth and honesty also made him a wonderful salesman throughout his career in manufactured housing sales.
Larry's greatest passions were his wife of 38 years, Judy, and his children, Andrea (Todd) Harper, Heather (Travis) Murray, David Zechmann, and Shawna (Timothy) Theisen. Judy was his little fire cracker with the giant heart who stole his heart. He didn't like doing anything or going anywhere without her. He was also ever-grateful for his wonderful daughters and the men they married, as they, too, became his sons.
Larry always considered his grandchildren his greatest gifts (in order of appearance): Marquie (Dustin) Jones, Sara White, Brittney Murray, Kendra Murray, Telara Harper, Taylere Murray, Drew Harper, Zachary Theisen, and Ryan Murray. He recently became a Great Grandpa to Caleb Gehring. He was a wonderful, loving grandfather who beamed while telling stories about each of them.
Larry was greeted in heaven by his parents and stepfather (Nino), his brother (Bill), his mother and father-in-law (Wanda and Smokey), his brother-in-law (Richard), and his baby grandson, Ryan.
Larry loved a good potluck but not funerals, so a potluck celebration of his life is planned for May 19th at 11:00 am in Boise at 111534 Oneida (off of Victory Ave). He and Judy decided that donations in lieu of flowers could be sent in Ryan Murray & Grandpa Larry Zechmann's name to: The American Childhood Cancer Organization Inland Northwest, P.O. Box 8031, Spokane, WA 99203. Arrangements are under the direction of the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. An online guest book may be signed at www.nampafuneralhome.com
