Leona V Crichton Wilkerson of Nampa passed peacefully away at home May 31 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Leona was born at home on the family farm May 9, 1932 in Meridian, Idaho to Art and Avis Crichton, dairy farmer and elementary school teacher. Leona was the oldest of five children, Margaret Huff, Blanche (Floyd) Uria, Wayne (Carol) Crichton and Floyd (Sandra) Crichton. She attended schools in Nampa, Happy Valley and Kuna, and then graduated from Homedale in 1950. She attended Nampa Business College and then went to work at the Nampa Airport for Clark Flying Service. This is where she met her future husband, Jack Wilkerson who was taking flight lessons. They were married June 17, 1951 at Southside Boulevard Methodist Church. Jack and Leona raised four children in Nampa - Susan (John) Mabey, Tim (Sue) Wilkerson, Nancy (Dave) Ward and Cindy Wilkerson. Leona loved spending time with her family and friends and with her flowers in her yard.
Leona is survived by all four children, five grandchildren: Aaron, Megan, Jeff, Brett, and Dale, three great-grandchildren: Zachary, Delaney, and Kellen, two sisters, two brothers, one special sister-in-law Alberta Wilkerson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Leona is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and one niece.
A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at New Hope Baptist, 1829 W. Iowa Ave., Nampa. Interment will follow immediately at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell. Memorials may be made to MISTI Nampa or to New Hope Baptist Church.
