December 27, 1942 - October 4, 2013
Michael "Skip" Kenneth Riggs, 70, of Nampa, Idaho died after a long and hard fought battle with lung cancer. Mike was born December 27, 1942 in Sacramento, California to Michial Maron and Irene Elizabeth Riggs.
He was raised in Sacramento until they moved to Carson Valley in 1955. Mike graduated from Douglas High School in 1960 and joined the Army National Guard in 1961. Mike married the love of his life, Donna Marie Grundy on September 25, 1965. They had two children, Michael and Jennifer.
Mike had many hobbies, from woodworking, model trains, to flying rockets, four wheeling and camping. He also enjoyed boating, water skiing, rebuilding jeeps and loading his own ammunition to target practice.
Although he lacked a college education, Mike worked as a planning engineer for Frontier Communications. Every time he would receive a promotion, he and Donna would relocate. Mike tried to retire, but loved his work too much. Mike worked for Frontier Communications for 44 years. He will be missed by family, friends, and co-workers.
After Mike underwent surgery, the cancer metastasized to inoperable brain cancer. He then came home for a short time, where he fell and broke his hip. After a short stay in a care center, he came home. He and Donna were able to celebrate their 48th wedding anniversary together.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Donna; son, Michael K. Riggs, Jr.; daughter, Jennifer Ensley; six grandchildren; his brother, Steven W. Riggs; his sister-in-law, Ann; and two nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; and aunt and uncle, Josie and Thomas Riggs.
A celebration of Mike's life will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, October 20, 2013 at the Heritage Bible Church, 7071 W. Emerald St., Boise, Idaho.
