March 14, 1932 - May 15, 2011
Naomi Mae Irons, 79, a longtime resident of Buckley, Wash., died May 15, 2011, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tacoma, Wash., surrounded by her loving family and friends.
She was born the youngest of four children to Florence Leone Train Duncan and Wallace Burton Duncan on March 14, 1932, in Centerville, S.D.
At a young age, her family moved to Nampa, Ida., where she graduated from Northwest Nazarene Academy in 1950.
While attending Northwest Nazarene College, she met and married Reverend Don Ray Fowler in 1951, and they had two sons.
After a tragic accident in 1958 leaving her a young widow, she and the boys moved to Puyallup, Wash. She raised and supported the boys with several jobs such as working at the local drive-in, the Puyallup School District, and a finance company, until she met and married Leslie Earl Irons on April 10, 1965.
She and Les made their home in Buckley, Wash., where they grew their family with the birth of two more children. She worked for 20 years as an insurance representative at State Farm.
She was a longtime member of Enumclaw Church of the Nazarene, where she was an active member of the church choir.
She enjoyed reading, playing games, and cooking for her family, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Florence Duncan, son, Dennis Ray Fowler and brother, LuVern Duncan. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Les Irons of Buckley, Wash.; son, Mickey Alan Fowler of Issaquah, Wash.; daughter, Julie Ann Baynum, and husband Jay of Apopka, Fla., and son, Brian Jon Irons and wife Dawn of Harvest, Ala.; daughter-in-law, Leisa Fowler of North Bend, Wash.; granddaughters, Carly Jane Fowler Adams of Kent, Wash., Kendra Leiann Fowler and Celine Raeann Fowler of North Bend, Wash., and Lauren Addison Irons and Maelyn Ansley Irons of Harvest, Ala.; grandsons, Brennan Allen Irons and Kellan Alden Irons of Harvest, Ala., and great-grandson, Rudy Adams III (Tri) of Kent, Wash.
She is also survived by her sisters, Leone Branstetter and Darlyne Markus, both of Nampa, Ida., and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorials may be made to: Compassionate Ministries Church of the Nazarene, 17001 Prairie Star Parkway, Lenexa, KS 66220.
A funeral service will be Wednesday, May 18, at 11 a.m., at the Enumclaw Church of the Nazarene with burial at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Wash., at 2:15 p.m.
