Norma (Michaelis) Gieg was born on October 14, 1961 at the Samaritan Hospital in Nampa, ID. She passed away on March 7, 2013 after an extended illness. A memorial service will be held at First Church of the Nazarene, 601 16th Avenue South on Wednesday March 13 at 10:00 am. The family will greet friends, and loved ones for refreshments after the ceremony in Ferdinand Hall. She worked at several occupations throughout her life; the latest was at Kimball Electronics in Boise. She was the daughter of Robert and Esther Michaelis. Norma left us with many happy and lasting memories. As a child she loved ice and roller skating and riding her fun loving pony named "Jim."She had a never ending love for music. She attended Eastside Elementary and graduated from Nampa High School in 1979. Norma was a member of First Church of the Nazarene where she as a youth attended Sunday school regularly & participated in the Caravans youth program. Girl's summer church camp was a favorite of Norma's. Norma will always be remembered for her great ability to remember historical dates and facts. She could correctly recite the actual dates for all birthdays, weddings and other family events of all her nieces, nephews and other relatives. In 1981 she married Oscar Cortez and together they had two lovely children Andrea J. and Matthew J. Cortez of Meridian and Nampa, ID. She later married her husband Clifford Gieg in 2004, who loved and cherished her to the very end. Norma is survived by her loving husband Clifford Gieg and daughter Andrea Cortez and son Matthew Cortez and grandchildren Addison and Aviana, respectfully. Her adoptive mother Esther Michaelis. Her brothers include Stephen (JoAnn) Michaelis, David (Konnie) Michaelis, Noe (Janet) Rodriguez and Heriberto Jr. (Esmeralda) Sandoval. Her sisters are Yolanda (Manuel) Cedillo, Ida (Guadalupe) Reyna, Ersilia (Conrad) De La Paz, Delia (Andres) Trejo and Mary (Jacinto) Gomez. Norma was preceded in death by her adoptive father Robert Michaelis and parents Heriberto Sr. and Santos Sandoval. The Gieg and Michaelis family would like to thank the many family and friends for their support, kind thoughts and prayers during this trying time.
