1st Sgt. Troy John Wood
1st Sgt. Troy John Wood, 44 of Nampa passed away August 30, 2012 as results of a motorcycle accident. Troy was born September 25, 1967 to John and Sandy Wood. He was their pride and joy. He always had a fantastic zest for adventure. He attended 12 years of school in Kuna, graduating in 1985. Soon after graduating he joined the Army, which at this time he was serving with the 321st Engineer Battalion at Gowen Field. He was just promoted to his current ranking a few weeks ago. He has served our country for over 20 years. He served three years in Fort Drum, New York, (back in the 80's). He also served 18 months in Baghdad, Iraq during the onset of the war. At that time he was able to spend two weeks R&R in Garmich, Germany which he really enjoyed. He was a longtime member of Divin-Sloneker Unit 126 in Melba. He loved to travel and was able to go to many destinations. He had a drive for adventure. If there was a mountain to climb, a motorcycle to ride, a river to kayak, a good fishing hole, somewhere to shoot a gun-he was there.
Amongst his many hobbies, he enjoyed competitive pool playing. He and his father had been players on a Wednesday night men's league shooting for Cook's Two-Holer Bar for many years.
The team placed First several times. He loved the Owyhee Mountains, especially Silver City where he spent many years at the family cabin that his grandfather purchased when he was nine months old. He enjoyed "Porch Grazing" with all the townspeople there. He was a talented artist having created many sculptures and paintings and displaying them at several Art Shows in the state. He was adored by his nieces, deeply loved by all his family and had a vast array of friends. He left us way too young, he had so much more to give. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Troy is survived by his mother Sandy; brother Jake (Skee), nieces Libertee and Lily; aunts: JD (Sylvan) Adamson, Gayle Wood and Faye (Dennis) Washburn; several cousins. He was preceded in death by his father "Big John" Wood.
A Military graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012 at the Melba Cemetery in Melba. Arrangements are being provided by Zeyer Funeral Chapel, Nampa. 467-7300. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Melba Quick Response or Melba Senior Center.
