Stephen Davis Obituary

Internationally acclaimed marine illustrator, Stephen L. Davis passed away at home June 24, 2011 in Williston, S.C. Born June 12, 1947 to Gilbert and Juanita Davis in Nampa, Idaho. Stephen earned a Bachelor's in Architecture from the University of Idaho and after a successful career, turned his focus to his true love: boats. Regularly featured in numerous magazines including Sail, Popular Mechanics, Power and Motor Yacht, along with illustrating books; his work was not limited to marine design, but also included horse trailers and planes. In 2010, Stephen relocated from Port Townsend, Wash. and Nampa, Idaho to Williston, S.C. to be with his daughter and her family. He took on the title of Barn Manager at Can't Wait Till Later Farm and over saw the care of his daughter's International event horses. Stephen continued design and illustration but especially enjoyed the roles of grandfather, photographer and the simple pleasures of friends and family. Always quick to smile, his faith kept him strong whenever there were challenges.
Preceded in death by both of his parents, Stephen leaves behind wife Jan of Port Townsend, Wash.; daughter Mellisa Davis Warden, son-in-law Steven Warden, and granddaughter Ainsley Warden of Williston, S.C.; sister Janet Crumpton of Nampa, Idaho; brother Michael Davis of Nampa; numerous nieces and nephews; and loving friends wherever he went. As per Stephen's wishes, no arrangements have been made. However, a celebration of life will take place in S.C., Idaho, and W.A. Please contact family members for details. Steve Davis loved his Savior and "dearly" loved his family. He was a man of honorable character; generous at heart. His beautiful daughter, Mellisa, and her lovely family was his pride and joy. The world has lost a good man: He will not soon be forgotten. I can visualize his happy heart rejoicing in the presence of his King.

Dear Family,

Steve was unique, talented and loved his Savior. He was never ashamed of his faith.

We are blessed to have a photo of one of the boats he created.

We are sorry for your loss - no one can fill his shoes! May the Lord comfort you with His peace and your many fond memories.
