John William Waite
John William Waite, 84, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2014 at home.
He was born December 15, 1929 in Bountiful, UT to Ira Levi and Mary Priscilla Mann Waite. His grandfather's name, for generations back, was John Waite. He attended schools in Clearfield and Kaysville, UT. He moved with his family to Star, Idaho in 1948. He served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Texas-Louisiana Mission. He married Nola Sylvia Schwartz in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on February 15, 1952. They lived in Nampa, Idaho for 25 years and were active members of the Nampa 1st Ward, and raised five children: ElJay, Dale, Candice, Rodney and Del Ray, teaching them to follow our Savior, Jesus Christ, who was the center of his life, and to obey God's commandments.
He was an obedient, faithful servant of God and quickly accepted and diligently magnified every calling given him. The family moved to Jerome, Idaho in 1977, serving six years as Bishop of the Jerome 4th Ward. In 1986 they moved to Caldwell, Idaho and served as a counselor in the Stake Presidency. John and Nola served in the Michigan, Detroit Mission from 1995-1996. Upon returning from their mission, he served as an Ordinance Worker and Sealer in the Boise Idaho LDS Temple.
He was a kind, loving, gentle son, husband, father, and grandfather, who responded immediately to family, neighbor and strangers' needs. He loved his family with all his heart, especially his eternal sweetheart. His sincerest desire was to thank everyone he knew.
He never complained when his health failed. While lying in his bed and holding his children's, grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's hands he repeated over and over "I Love You, I Love You, I Love You". He tenderly kissed each hand.
He was preceded in death by his parents, all but one brother, and son Del Ray. He is survived by his wife Nola of 62 years, ElJay and Pep Waite of Caldwell, Dale and Linda Waite of Nampa, Candice and Doug Young of Twin Falls, Rodney and Edie Waite of Jerome, Del Ray's wife Linda of Kaysville, UT, a brother Cleve Waite and wife Joyce of Payson, UT, 21 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 1 at the Caldwell East Stake Center located at 11792 Linden Rd in Caldwell. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 28, at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N Midland Blvd, Nampa (467-7300) and at the church from 11:30 to 12:45 p.m. prior to the services.
