November 30, 1936 - April 21, 2014
Leona "Joan" Cayler, 77 of Caldwell, died Monday, April 21, 2014 at her home with her family by her side.
Joan was born November 30, 1936, in Ogden, Utah to Dorothy and Ross Ferro. She was the first of nine children.
While her father was serving in the Navy, Joan moved with her mother and other children to the "Apple Valley" homestead of her grandparents, Elmer and Bertha Campbell. They later moved into the Military Projects at the bottom of Canyon Hill that was provided for the families.
Joan attended Caldwell schools where she met her future husband, Mike Cayler. They both graduated in 1955. She graduated from Kaiser Nursing School where she was president of her class. Soon after graduation, she married her high school sweetheart and they started their family. Mike and Joan had 3 children: Jan (Bob) Sauer, Sandy (Redd) Wade and Rick Cayler; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one on the way. Family was everything and they always came first.
Joan spent her forty year nursing career in many different areas at West Valley Medical Center. Her love was the operating room where she spent her career and made lifelong friends.
Joan also loved her church and served in many callings. Her most favorite was a teacher of the "Sunbeams."
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mike Cayler; brothers, Gary Ferro and Bill Ferro; sisters, Jackie Amos, Dale Ann Cayler, Maggie Haile and Kathy Wells.
She is survived by her children; a brother, David (Karen) Ferro of Caldwell; a sister, Doris Willmorth of Snoqualmie, WA; and many extended family members that will have fond memories of reunions at Mike and Joan's and long hours of swimming.
