January 12, 1923 - April 19, 2014
Lillie Arlene West Wethered of Nampa, ID passed away April 19, 2014 at the age of 91. Arlene was born to Claude and Lucy Anne West on January 12, 1923 in Ponca City, Oklahoma. After graduating from high school, she moved to Oklahoma City, OK where she attended radio school and worked at Douglas Aircraft in Mid West City, OK.
She met a young naval aviation machinist mate, Cecil Wethered, and they were married October 9, 1943. She worked at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, FL until the birth of her first child, Pearl Anne. After being discharged from the Navy, the couple relocated to Cecil's home in the Portland, WA area, later moving to eastern Washington, and finally settling in Nampa in 1965.
Through the years, Arlene was proud of serving as PTA President, Cub Scout Den Mother, and a member of the Order of the Amaranth. She served as Royal Matron several times and as Grand Royal Matron for the State of Idaho (1985). Arlene enjoyed painting, knitting, crocheting, quilting, and crafting, but most of all she valued spending time with her family. In 1999 Arlene retired from 35 years of providing in-home daycare, but liked to say that she never retired from home making or raising her family.
Arlene is survived by two sisters who still reside in Oklahoma, seven adult children and their spouses, 18 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, and many loving friends. Her four sons, Clinton (Bud), Chris, Bruce, and Walter, and two of her daughters, Lyn and Darlene, reside in the Nampa area. Her youngest daughter, Karen, lives in Oulu, Finland. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Cecil, her first born infant, Pearl Anne, and her grand-daughter, Elisabeth Autumn Wethered Azizeh.
