Donald Ulm Higel, 91, of Nampa, passed away, May 13, 2014. Don was one of the Greatest Generation, born June 7, 1922, and served his country in WWII in the 82nd Airborne Division, 456 Parachute Battalion which included Normandy, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe from April 20, 1943 to January 1, 1946.
He married the love of his life Delilah Mae McCurley on September 26, 1948.
He was a loving brother, father and grandfather, and is survived by his sisters, Dolores Wright of Nampa and Lois Fangmeier of Hebron Nebraska; two sons, DeWight Higel (Zoe) of Nampa and Duane Higel (Terrie) of Boise; two daughters, Donna Higel of Vancouver, Washington and Dayle Winbigler (Jim) of Caldwell; four grandchildren Ian and Joe Winbigler of Caldwell, Andrew and Mathew Higel of St. Louis; a niece, Jeanette Fangmeier and nephews, David Fangmeier of Nebraska, and Roger Wright of Nampa.
Don was a lover of animals and always had a place in his home for any dog or cat that needed a loving hand. He loved his dog, Rudy, especially and his house cats. He was a designer, fabricator and welder. He owned and operated Higel Repair for many years out of Kuna and Nampa. Many of the picnic tables in the Nampa parks were built by him and his son, DeWight.
Don was a lover of The Lord and wore out many Bibles in his lifetime and is now in heaven with his wife, Delilah.
There will be a private viewing for the family. Graveside services will be open to all on Saturday May 17, 2014 at 11:30 AM at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens at 15862 South Indiana Ave in Caldwell.
