Elizabeth Ann Rettig, 83, of Caldwell passed away Monday, May 26, 2014, at West Valley Medical Center in Caldwell, Idaho. Elizabeth was born to Ira and Louise Eberhart on October 11,1930 in Wichita, Kansas. In keeping with the family tradition of becoming educators, she graduated from Kansas State University in 1952 and began a career as a Home Economics teacher. While teaching in Fredonia, Kansas, she met her husband of nearly 60 years, Herbert Rettig, and they married in Reading, Kansas on June 13, 1954. After marrying, they moved to Moscow, Idaho where Herbert attended law school at the University of Idaho and Elizabeth worked as an extension agent in Latah County. Once Herbert had graduated from law school, they moved to Owyhee County where she continued her county extension agent work. After several years in Owyhee county, Herbert and Elizabeth settled in Caldwell where Herbert practiced law and Elizabeth continued working as a teacher, a county agent, Diet Center Consultant, and Director of the Caldwell Senior Citizens Center. Elizabeth and Herbert enjoyed traveling and took several cruises and many trips which included a trip to Hawaii with their children to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Elizabeth enjoyed spending time at the family cabin in McCall, as well as with her many friends. She also enjoyed sewing, painting, arts and crafts, and reading. She was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church, Soroptimist Club, and Eastern Star. Elizabeth is survived by her husband Herbert Rettig, daughter Rosemary Rettig of Boise, Idaho, son Rex (Julie) Rettig of Nampa, Idaho, granddaughter Wendy Weber of Boise, Idaho, grandsons Chris Rettig of Seoul, Korea, Alex Rettig of Nampa, Idaho, as well as two great grandchildren. Services will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., at Dakan Funeral Chapel located at 504 S. Kimball in Caldwell, Idaho.
