George Weitz Obituary

George A. Weitz
December 10, 1927 - May 9, 2012
George A. Weitz, 84 of Caldwell, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012. He was born in Los Angeles, California to George A. and Gertrude Holmes Weitz. As a young boy, the family moved to Idaho where George spent many years working in the family produce business.
George graduated from Caldwell High School in 1945. He also attended the University of Idaho where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He made the basketball team as a freshman, and that year the University of Idaho basketball team went to the Northern Division of the Pacific Coast Conference where they played the University of California at Berkley for the Pacific Coast Conference Championship.
After college, George managed a potato packing shed in Madras, Oregon until he was drafted into the US Army. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan where he ran a commissary warehouse. After his Honorable Discharge from the army, he came back to Idaho and formed a partnership with his brother, Phil and farmed for many years. George married the love of his life, Joan Kaeser in Boise, Idaho in 1955.
George was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with friends and family. He missed "shooting his age" by 1 shot when he was 80 years old.
He was preceded in death by his father, George A Weitz, Sr. and his mother, Gertrude Weitz.
George is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Joan Weitz; sisters, Margaret Walker and Nancy (Otto) Leuschel; brother, Phillip Weitz; his children, Kurtis (Betty) Weitz, Tony (Lisa) Weitz, Joseph (Kristen) Weitz and Jane (Ron) McConnell. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
At his request, no formal services will be held. The family would like to invite friends to a Celebration of George's Life open house to exchange fond memories on Friday, May 18th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Nampa Civic Center, 311 Third St S, Nampa.

The Hurst family is saddened by George's passing. He was a great supporter of mine and always lifted my spirits when I saw him!

George and my father go way back and there are many told and untold stories of their times together.

God bless his family and friends... we will miss him everyday.

I am sorry to hear that he passed away. I spoke with him briefly about family history last year, and I am sorry that I hadn't made it out to caldwell to meet him again and get to know him better. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

My heartfelt condolences for your loss Joan, Kurt, Tony, Jane, and Joe. George was a great influence on my life, and I always looked up to him as a "mentor", teacher, role model, and sometime "warden' for the antics teen age boys will pull. :->

I know I speak for the entire Stanwood family, both Keith's and Jerry's, that we will miss George, and think of him fondly. We will remember his great humor, and compassion for those he loved, and cared about.
