Carrie Shenkel
March 11, 1910 - December 9, 2012
Lydia Caroline Patterson was born March 11, 1910. She became Carrie Patterson soon after, she didn't like the name Lydia at all. Then she became Carrie Shenkel in March 30, 1941, when she and Alvin Shenkel were married in Carrington, North Dakota. They had met five years before, but times were hard, so they waited these five years to marry. Carrie was the oldest child of Robert and Ellan (Ellie) Patterson. Robert Patterson arrived in America from Ireland in 1903, then Ellie in 1907, after Robert established a home and farm for them in Hawks Nest Township near Sykeston, North Dakota. Carrie was born at home as were her two sisters and brother. Grace Dietz, Rebina Zacher and Robert Patterson. Alvin and Carrie lost two children at birth and then adopted their son Gary when he was 4 months old. Gary was born May 10, 1944 in Fargo, North Dakota. He passed away February 16, 2000. Alvin Shenkel passed away January 14, 1983. The Shenkel family moved to Nampa, Idaho in 194 and opened the Shenkel Printing Shop p in 1949, until retiring in 1975. Carrie was the first to be born and the last to go home to Jesus, her two sisters and brother passing before her. Her nephew Derrald Zacher, also passed away before her. Carrie is survived by her nephews; Arliss Dietz, Larry Dietz and Don Zacher. Her nieces; Gloria Gleaves, Sue Irving, Lynnette Lewis and Bobbie Simmons. And many more great and great-great nephews and nieces. And many more from Alvin's family. Carrie was the Treasurer for the Nampa Senior Center for over 20 years. She was a member of everything it seems; Nampa Valley Grange, Women of Moose, Eastern Star, and she was an avid bowler. She also loved traveling, visiting and visiting always. All in all she loved life and those in her life loved her. Carrie will be missed greatly by all her family. Her nieces and nephews, Alvin's family, all her friends whom she dearly loved. Carrie was a member of First United Methodist Church all her life and attended the Church of Christ while she was at Park Place Assisted Living. Many thank you's and love pats to both church families for being a family of love for Carrie. Love and thank-you to Park Place for caring for Carrie as your own. Thank you to Legacy Hospice for making Carrie's last days peaceful. God bless you all.
