Larry Thomas Tarr
October 19, 1929 - March 17, 2013
Larry Thomas Tarr passed away March 17, 2013 at the age of 83, with his family by his side.
Larry was born October 19, 1929 to Seth and Mabel Tarr on the Tarr homestead near Wilder, Idaho. He graduated from Wilder High School in 1947. After high school, he worked for the Wilder Highway District for about a year. He married Bertha Marie Johanson on May 24, 1948 near Wilder, Idaho. They were married by Rev. Ernest Stuchbery, Bertha's uncle.
Larry worked for a couple farmers in the Wilder area before he and Bertha purchased their farm in Arena Valley in 1956. Larry continued farming until 2004 when he and Bertha moved to Nampa. During a portion of his farming years, he also worked for the Boise Project Board of Control in Wilder for 13 years.
Larry has always enjoyed participating in sports, starting with high school football, basketball and baseball. Through the years, he earned many trophies for bowling and horseshoes, and he has enjoyed playing golf along with the "Over The Hill Gang" as well as any other time he could fit a game or two in. During the 12 years they went "south" for the winter, he enjoyed playing softball, golf and horseshoes as much as possible.
Over the years, Larry enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting with family and friends. He always made time for his daily crossword puzzle. Larry and Bertha also loved playing cards with family and friends over many years, even including the week of his passing.
Larry and Bertha are long-time members of the United Methodist Church in Wilder, but have most recently been attending the United Methodist Church in Caldwell.
Larry is survived by his wife, Bertha Tarr of Nampa; two sisters, Marjorie Smith of Boise and Peggy (Floyd) Bryant of Notus; two brothers, Eugene (Jean) Tarr of Smelterville and Jim Tarr of Caldwell; daughter, Cheryl Taylor of Boise; son, Howard (Jean) Tarr of Wilder; daughter, Nancy (Ken) Justice of Boise; 7 grandchildren - Mike Hultz of Minot, SD; Brandy (Mike) Hansen of Colorado Springs, CO; Kerry (Kevin) Parker of Spokane, WA; Kevin Justice of Keene, NH; Jeremy (Kendall) Tarr of Wilder; Jamaal Justice of New York, NY; and Nick (Sophie) Tarr of Boise; and 11 great-grandchildren.
