The Guest Book is expired.
November 2, 1942 - April 26, 2013
Rodney Stephenson passed away at the age of 70 due to natural causes, at his home in Nampa, Idaho. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee to William Vernon and Mary Elic Stephenson.
The family moved to Shelby, Mississippi to pursue his father's dream of farming. Rodney was the oldest of three children, and was blessed with two sisters, Peggy Brown and Julia Ormiston. As a young boy he fell in love with the outdoors, and would skip school or sneak away from farm work to hunt, fish, and explore. He was named as a starting linesman for the Shelby High School football team in his freshman year, and was a four year stand-out player. He enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1961 and was honorably discharged. After graduating from Barber College he returned home to work with his father running the family cotton farm and barber shop in Shelby. He married Carolyn Boyd in 1962. They had two children, Melissa Lynne Stephenson (Glick) and William Rodney (Steve) Stephenson, Jr. In 1972 the family fell in love with Idaho while visiting friends, moving to Nampa in 1973. Rodney and Carolyn divorced in 1986.
He enjoyed flying, rock hunting, gold panning, and fly fishing. He was an avid hunter and skilled marksman with guns and bows. He was co-proprietor of Holly Barber Shop in Nampa and later, co-owned Nampa Drywall, but his love of the outdoors and people eventually led him to work in the sporting goods retail business. He became known as a technical expert, friend, and advice source to many Treasure Valley outdoorsmen, before retiring. He met his wife Penny Mitchell and they shared a life together for 24 years. He loved people and they loved him in return. For this, the family is eternally grateful.
He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents and mother-in-law.
He is survived by his wife, Penny Stephenson and her son, Jack; mother, Mary Stephenson of Collierville, TN; children: Lynne (Pete) Glick of Meridian, ID and Steve (Shawna) Stephenson of Nampa, ID; two grandchildren: Taylor and Caden Stephenson of Nampa, ID; sisters: Peggy Brown of Memphis, TN, and Julia Ormiston of Collierville, TN; uncle, Noel (Carolyn) Brown of Jacksonville, FL; and father-in-law Jack Wilcutt of Caldwell, ID.
The family will fulfill his wish to have his ashes spread at his favorite hunting place.
