Ernest (Ernie) Albert Pelsey
May 9, 1925 - February 22, 2014
Ernest Pelsey died at his home in Nampa on February 22, 2014, at the age of 88. After another operation and many weeks in a Boise Hospital he was granted his wish to come home, where within 2 hours he passed, surrounded with his loving family by his side.
Ernest was born to Albert and Melvina Pelsey in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was the youngest of three children. His parents died when he was very young and he has since lost his sister, Sue. Most of his childhood he was raised in several foster homes.
After graduating from high school he joined the Merchant Marines and traveled the world during World War II, he had many stories to tell.
He married his first wife Jean and from this marriage two children, Rory and Laura were born. After their divorce, several years later Ernest married Beulah, and her two children Jim and Pat were added to the family.
They lived in San Fernando Valley, California and later moved to Green Valley, California where they built their A frame house. One of the many accomplishments of Ernie's life. He loved woodworking. Their next move was to Nampa, Idaho about 30 years ago. Beulah passed away in 1995.
Besides Ernie's love for caring for his home, he was proud of the peach orchard, which he grew from seeds, of which many enjoyed the fruit. Also, the walnut tree, he spent many hours cracking nuts, cleaning up the tree and chasing squirrels. He loved to garden as well as fish, go camping, traveling with the motor home. He bowled for many years and was very good at horseshoes and also enjoyed playing pool. His biggest hobby was woodworking, mostly with oak, and it was a sad day when his eyesight got so bad he could no longer do it.
In California, he would take Rory and Laura camping and fishing in the Sierra's, to Disneyland and on many trips to Missouri, Las Vegas and Yosemite Park.
Ernie was a member of the Elks Lodge for 37 years. In Nampa he was a member of the Good Sam's Camper club and served several years at the Nampa Civic Center.
He was blessed when a very dear friend introduced him to a mutual friend, named Gloria. They were married and spent the last eighteen years together. During these years Ernie added cruises to his list of things he liked and they went on several of them, as well as other travels.
Ernest was preceded in death by both parents, sister Sue, and former wives Beulah and Jean.
Ernest is survived by his wife Gloria, and he leaves a legacy of two children; Rory Pelsey and Laura Gorman, seven grandchildren; Jerrad, Jason, Justin, Lisa, Christina, Deana and Eric, twelve great-grandchildren; two step children; Jim Gregory and Pat Wastali. His wife Gloria's family, 4 stepchildren, Lois Simpson, Roy Mainwaring, Jody Linsey and Jerry Mainwaring and 6 step grandchildren and families.
