September 6, 1942 - April 23, 2013
Helen Ann Lewis "Nana" of Pocatello passed away peacefully surrounded by many loved ones on Tuesday, April 23, 2013. Ann was born on September 6, 1942 in Pocatello Idaho to Weldon and Helen Hansen Lewis.
Ann moved with her mother and stepfather, Dewey Farmer, to Boise at the age of 16. She graduated from Borah High School and went on to attend Rick's College and BYU. She started her family with Lowell McClellan in 1965. She adopted his four children and they had six more for a total of 10. They lived in Boise for 13 years then lived in Tucson, AZ for 11 years. After she was divorced from Lowell, Ann moved back home to Pocatello. There she worked with her beloved uncles and cousins at Lewis Corporation for 20 years.
Ann immersed herself in charitable acts. She volunteered many hours at the Salvation Army organizing and serving at the annual Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for the homeless. She spent several years serving on the LDS Public Affairs Committee. She was an accomplished genealogist and was deeply involved in writing and publishing family histories. She shared this gift with many others as a genealogy instructor at the University of Arizona and Idaho State University. She was blessed with many artistic and creative talents.
Nana was a survivor and a fighter. She endured many trials and adversities in her lifetime. She maintained her faith and hope with grace. Her faithful membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints sustained her through all of these trials. She loved her Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was inspired to carry on by her pioneer heritage.
Nana devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. She dearly loved each of them without condition. She was their rock. She spent countless hours crocheting baby booties, blessing dresses, baptism dresses, and baby blankets. Her most prized possession was her crocheted Christmas tree adorned with pictures of all of her children and grandchildren.
Ann was preceded in death by her father, Weldon Lewis, her granddaughter, Mia Catherine McClellan, and beloved grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by her mother, Helen Farmer, stepfather, Dewey Farmer, her 3 brothers, Robert (Veronika) Farmer, Nyle (Terry) Farmer, Craig (Julia) Farmer, her 10 children, Todd (Judy) McClellan, Jamie (Gary) Johnson, Jana (Garth) Swensen, Mac (Rosi) McClellan, Lenore (Dean) Moser, Weston Lewis, Annette (Hans) Haroldsen, Mitchell (Carlie) McClellan, Kristian (Cindy) McClellan, Kara (Chester) Whitworth, 44 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services, under the direction of Downard Funeral Home, will be held on Saturday, April 27th at 1:00 pm at the LDS Chapel at 550 W. Cedar in Pocatello. Friends and family may attend a viewing on Friday evening at Downard Funeral Home from 6 to 8:00 pm.
