Lorenzo John Hennefer
BLACKFOOT - Lorenzo John Hennefer, 80, of Blackfoot, Idaho, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011, at Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, Idaho, following an extended illness.
John was born September 13, 1930, in Thomas, Idaho, to Lorenzo James Hennefer and Ruby Katherine Parish. He spent most of his lifetime in Blackfoot other than the time he spent away during the Korean War and the time he spent on his ranch in Montana.
John attended school in Thomas and was one of the first to graduate from Snake River. He served his country in the United States Navy as a cook in the Korean War.
When John got out of the Navy, he homesteaded in Hazelton, Idaho. This is where he met Bonnie Jean Buck. They were married April 7, 1959, in Elko, Nevada. Two children were born in Hazelton, Idaho. They moved back to Bingham County, where they had two more children.
John did custom farm work and had a milk route. He went to auctioneer school in Montana and then he ran Idaho Auction Company.
He sold farm equipment and did his auctions. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, and decided to buy a ranch in Montana.
Later John and Bonnie were divorced.
He lived on the ranch for a few years and then returned to Riverside.
In his free time he enjoyed his Shetland ponies and driving them in a two- and four-horse hitch. He loved spending time with his friends at Jackson Trout Pond, gardening and was known for making pies. John was a past Elks member.
John married Lois Kniffen on September 13, 1986, in Elko, Nevada. They were later separated due to health reasons. But they stayed together. John and Lois had made a home together in Riverside, where John was able to visit with friends and relatives.
John is survived by Lois Hennefer, his companion; daughter, Lorrie Ann Hennefer Richards (Jody) South from Emmett, Idaho; sons, William Kirk (Debbie) Hennefer of Missoula, Montana, James Bart Hennefer of Riverside, Idaho, and John Roy (Dana) Hennefer of Caldwell, Idaho; three stepchildren; sister, Juell Stewart of Groveland, Idaho; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Zelda Butterworth, Katherine Rudolph, Freda Waddoups and Jennie Thompson.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2011, at Hawker
