FORT HALL - Lucy Honena Diaz, 87, of Fort Hall, Idaho, passed away Monday, June 6, 2011, at her home.
Lucy was born on September 7, 1923, in Fort Hall, Idaho, the eldest daughter of Laura Tendoy and Samuel Honena, descended through her great-grandfather, Chief Tendoy, and her grandfather, Toopompey of the Agai'dika or Lemhi band of the Shoshone tribe. Orphaned at the age of 9, she was raised by her grandmother, Nena Tendoy Tissidiment.
Lucy lived in Gibson, Idaho, on the Fort Hall Reservation. She attended The Mission, an all-Indian girls' day school on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation and the Chemewa Indian Boarding School in Salem, Oregon.
Lucy was a homemaker and mother, devoting her life to raising her family. 
On April 1, 1943, Lucy married Joe Vincent Diaz. She has been married for 68 years to Joe, who is a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. They have eight children (three deceased), 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Lucy is survived by her husband, Joe V. Diaz; son, John Diaz; daughters, Bev (JJ) Wadsworth, Debbie (Willy) LaMere, Barbara J. Edmo and Norma (Mark) Wadsworth; brother, Snookins (Nora) Honena; 12 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Lucy is preceded in death by her parents, sons, Greg and Vern, daughter, Linda, brothers, Hooper Honena, Lee Hardy, Brazil and Woodrow, infant sisters, Agnes and Bernice, and one grandchild.  
Lucy will be taken to her residence on Diaz Lane and Highway 91 at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2011. A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot. A Traditional Native American Burial will take place at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2011, at the Gibson Cemetery.
