Melvin A. Clouser
AMERICAN FALLS - Melvin A. Clouser, 84, of American Falls, Idaho, passed away Friday, August 14, 2009, at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Pocatello, Idaho.
He was born to William Jonathan and Margaret Eva Adams Clouser on Oct. 5, 1924, in Juanita, Pennsylvania. Melvin was the youngest of three children. Melvin grew up in Pennsylvania. He joined the Navy when he was 17 and later met his wife Francis, of 64 years, while they were both stationed at Tillamook, Oregon. They were later sealed in the LDS Manti Temple in 1958. Melvin worked at Pennsylvania after the navy and then moved to Utah where he worked at Consolidated Steel until 1959 when he moved the family to Idaho after going on a fishing trip there. Melvin worked at PFE loading ice into railroad cars and then went to work at FMC and retired in October 1989.
Melvin loved to draw and to fish. He spent many hours on the bank of Medicare Beach until his health prevented him doing so. Melvin loved to play cribbage and could beat almost everyone. Melvin was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a High Priest.
Melvin is survived by his loving wife, Francis, two sons and three daughters: Susan (Ralph) Barrett, Dan Clouser both of American Falls, Venna Harris of Aberdeen, KaeAnn (Larry) Annen of Orofino and Jon (Maureen) Clouser of Pocatello; 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Wilbur C. Clouser, Clarksville, Tennessee, and one step-sister, Jean MaGee, Huntingdon, Pa.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Daisy Clouser, sister, Betty Young, son, Melvin Jr., son-in-law, LaVar Harris, granddaughter, Kendra Harris and great-granddaughter, Tambi Dawn Barrett.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, American Falls 2nd Ward, 111 Church Place, with Bishop Gregory A. Miller conducting. The visitation will be this evening, Monday, Aug. 17th, from 6-8 p.m. at Davis-Rose Mortuary, 170 Idaho St., American Falls, and Tuesday, Aug. 18th, from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church.
Interment will be in the Falls View Cemetery in American Falls with military honors by the Rolland Evans American Legion Post #3 in American Falls.
