Sims, Erma July 23, 1922 - June 9, 2012.
Erma was born and raised in the vicinity of Pocatello, Idaho. Erma's father, Truman Draper, was a farmer and railroad worker, passed away in her early childhood years; and yet, her mother, Esther Draper, worked hard to provide a life rich in love and security for Erma and her seven siblings. The example Erma's mother had instilled in Erma, carried out in her deeds throughout her lifetime, as family was at the center of Erma's life.
Erma moved to California as a young woman and married Martin Sims. They were blessed with two sons, Greg and Garrick Sims. Erma was a very encouraging mother; she had the attitude that everything was possible with a little hard work and ingenuity. Raised in a period when minorities underwent many hardships, she longed to see the day when all people could be treated equally.
She was a woman beyond her times, compassionate, and full of love. Erma believed in fairness and equality, and always put others before herself. Erma was a talented cook, artist, storyteller, and she was always ready for a good laugh. In fact, Erma's humor lasted into her final moments, where she continued to make her loved one giggle with her candid wittiness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin, son, Garrick, brother, Lynn Allen, and her sisters, Ruby, Jewel, Jane, and Bonnie. She is survived by her son, Greg Sims of Willows; her daughter-in-law, Sherry Sims of Willows; her sister, Mary, of Pocatello; her sister, Faye, of Willows; her grandson, Shaun and his wife, Patricia; her grandson, Jason; her granddaughter, Joanna, and her husband, Gulzar; her great-grandsons, Eric, Ethan, Brayden and Ishan. She is also survived by many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Erma was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend of many. Those who knew Erma understood that they were blessed to have had such a positive example. Erma was a teacher in perseverance, fairness, humor and most importantly in taking the time to love those who are near.
Preparations for the celebration of her life are still underway. Family and friends will be contacted in the near future with the arrangements.
