POCATELLO - Robert M. Sykes was born in Roberts, Idaho, on July 29, 1935, and passed away on Oct. 17, 2012 of a prolonged illness.
He married Rita M. Burwell in July 19, 1952, at Pocatello, Idaho.
Bob is survived by his children, Colleen Lanier, Rose Akers (Kenas Akers), Juanita Sykes, Robin Harris (Kevin Harris), Robert Sykes Jr. (LaVaun Sykes), Max Sykes (Tammi Sykes), Christie Combs (Kal Combs); 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Katie Obanion. Bob was predeceased by his wife, Rita M. Sykes, his infant child, Clifford Sykes, his brother, Bruce Sykes, Ben Sykes, Melba Sykes, Betty Morrison, Floyd Sykes, Jackie Johnson, and Basil Sykes.
In Bob's teenage years he worked as a tuna fisherman, worked on a ranch in Wyoming, worked for Garrett Shipping. As an adult he worked for the Iron Workers Local No. 732, in his retired years he was also a fishing guide.
Bob had many hobbies including hunting, fishing, golf, rock and bottle collecting, and gold mining but always said that his family was the most important to him.
On Bob's last day he said he had a good life and that he would see us down the road.
A memorial for Bob will be held at the Clarion Inn at 1399 Bench Road, Pocatello, beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday the 26th.
