Soda Springs: William "Bill" Herbert Horsley, 88, of Soda Springs passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at the Caribou Memorial Assisted Living Center in Soda Springs.
Bill was born on September 20, 1925 in Soda Springs, Idaho the son of Milton Lau and Emma Delamar Horsley.
He was a lifelong resident of Soda Springs and graduated from Soda Springs High School.
Bill served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He met the love of his life, Ilene Moore after coming home from the war, he met her at the Eastman Drug where she worked at the Soda Fountain in 1948. They were married on March 18, 1951 and spent 63 years of devoted marriage together. They both expressed that the best thing that ever happened to them was each other.
Bill was co-owner with his brother of the Horsley Brothers Lumber Co. in Soda Springs. He enjoyed spending time with family and supported his children and grandchildren in their various activities. He enjoyed picking and eating huckleberries, a good poker game and the game of golf. He scored two hole in ones, both on the 7th hole of the Oregon Trail Golf Course. He took up cross country skiing after he and his brother closed their business in 1980, and enjoyed looping around the golf course while it was covered in snow.
Bill is survived by his wife Ilene, two sons and one daughter, Bill & Denise Horsley of Soda Springs, ID, Doug and Diane Horsley of Lawrenceville, GA, Kibbie Horsley of Bozeman, MT. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, one brother Ralph Horsley. He was preceded in death by his parents Milton and Emma Horsley, a sister LaVonne Cordon and a brother Burke Horsley.
Services will be held on Saturday April 12, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Sims Funeral Home. The family will visit with friends on Friday evening from 7-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home and also on Saturday morning from 11:30-12-30 prior to services. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to the City of Soda Springs Library building fund.
