Yasvac, John Paul
John P. Yasvac 1921 ~ 2014 John Paul Yasvac died peacefully Tuesday, December 17, 2014 at Emerson House in Boise, Idaho at the age of 93. He was born July 7, 1921 is Aliquippa, Pa. and was the fifth and youngest child of Anton and Catherine (Barkovic) Yasvac. John attended school in Aliquippa and often talked of his home town. At the age of 19, John joined the United States Army and moved to Boise, Idaho where he served as a Staff Sergeant at Gowen Field. He served in the U. S. Army from 1942 - 1946. Boise became his home - a place that he loved and spent the remainder of his life. John married Geraldine (Gerry) Simons on May 31, 1952 in Boise, Idaho. Their son, Tom, was born on April 3, 1960. John and Gerry were devoted parents that loved Tom deeply and built their live around caring for his special needs. After Gerry's passing in 2006, John carried on for Tom. He was so proud of "The Dude" and often engineered all kinds of devices to assist Tom in his daily living needs. John was actively involved with and served as the Chairman of the Parent-Guardian Association of the Southwest Idaho Treatment Center (formerly the Idaho State School and Hospital), and was also a valued volunteer with United Cerebral Palsy of Idaho. John worked for many years in the furniture and appliance business and spent the final years of his career (1976-1986) in advertising sales for The Idaho Statesman. He was a sharp mind and interesting conversationalist. Most of all, John was generous and cared about other people. No story about John would be complete without mentioning his love of golf. For decades he played golf multiple times a week at Warm Springs Golf Course. Each year he was able to match his golf score with his age and record he was able to maintain to the age 91. John is survived by his son, Thomas; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Gary and Janet Benoit. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Carl and Ingnes (Jack); sisters, Agnes and Mary; and his lovingly wife, Gerry. Memorial services for John will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel on the campus of the Southwest Idaho Treatment Center in Nampa. Please call 208-447-7344 for directions, if needed. Entombment will be at Terrace Lawn Memorial Gardens in Boise; arrangements are by Summers Funeral Homes, Boise Chapel. Memorial contributions in John's name may be made to Special Olympics Idaho. Thank you to the staff at Emerson House, All Care Hospice and to all those that cared for John during his final days of life. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on John's memorial webpage at www.summersfuneral.com .
