Yager, Alice Lorraine - Meridian
Alice Lorraine Yager 1928 ~ 2016 Alice Lorraine Yager departed this life peacefully in Boise, ID, on Thursday, January 28, 2016, at Overland Court Senior Living and Memory Care surrounded by family. She was 87 years old. Alice was born December 17, 1928, in Rost Township, MN, to Albert and Alma Rients. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Carmelita Finnern and her brother Arnold Rients. Alice is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Joseph Earle Yager, of Boise, ID; her six children: Brenda Yager of Albuquerque, NM, Bryan Yager (Becky) of Boise, ID, Brent Yager (Mary) of Des Moines, IA, Bernette Weidman (Rick) of Charlotte, NC, Barry Yager of Meridian, ID and Beth Quade of Frisco, TX; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews including Donna Ahlers of Hartley, IA, who lived with Alice and Earle for a period of time. Alice enjoyed her childhood on the family farm in Rost Township, attending the Lutheran church parochial school where she enjoyed pitching on the softball team, 4-H Club, and friends. She graduated from high school in Lakefield, MN, where she participated in school plays and continued to pitch softball. It was in Lakefield where she met the love of her life, Joseph Earle Yager, at the Lakefield rollerskating rink on July 4, 1948. They were married April 17, 1949, and moved to the Yager family farm south of Lake Park, IA. They started their family and ultimately had six children, living in Heron Lake, MN, briefly before moving to Hartley, IA, where Alice worked at the Hartley Community Hospital and Nursing Home for many years until she retired. She and Earle then moved to Boise, ID, and enjoyed being near their children and grandchildren. She also loved her dog Boji. Alice dedicated her life to her family, church and helping the elderly, sick and less fortunate. In her early married years on the farm, Alice deeply believed in the importance of the 4-H Club and helped mentor troubled youths, even taking some into her home and providing them love, support and encouragement to finish school while simultaneously providing a loving home with her family. Alice served as the Ladies Aid president at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she initiated small Bible study groups. As a dedicated mother, she tended vegetable gardens growing and canning fresh produce for her family, enjoyed working in the kitchen, and sewed and made clothes for her children. She believed in the importance of family meals together. Alice was very talented in the kitchen and baked breads, sweet rolls, cookies, cakes and pies which filled the home with wonderful aromas. Alice extended her concern and love to the residents of the Hartley nursing home, visiting with them, decorating their rooms and regularly baking cakes for their birthdays. Alice had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed laughter with family and friends. She will be greatly missed by her family that loved her dearly. Funeral services in celebration of Alice's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 31, 2016, at Adventure Church of Meridian, 4495 S Meridian Rd, Meridian, ID.
