Barbara Elaine Metcalf Ingalls
1924 ~ 2013
Born April 24, 1924 in Boise to Rowley and Gertrude Cox Metcalf.
She married Stanley R Ingalls, March 22, 1941. They lived in Bremerton, WA during the early years of marriage while Stan worked for the Navy Dept. After returning home to Boise, they became sole owners of Ingalls Machine Shop. Stan did the work & Barbara took care of the books. They built their home together in 1951 and continued to live there til 2011. Due to ill health, they moved to Summerwind Assisted Living in Boise.
Barbara was a wonderful seamstress; making clothes for herself; her children & others over the years. She made all her dresses; formals & costumes for activities at the Elks Lodge
. They purchased property at Lowman, Idaho and continued to spend summer weekends in their camp trailer for nearly 30 years. Barbara loved fishing alone and with friends and family over the years while spending time at the trailer. She nearly always caught the first fish. She worked different part time jobs over the years to earn extra money; making fishing lures; cleaning small banks; took in ironing & sewing for others; selling Avon for many years. She never had idle hands.
While residing at Summerwind, she taught a class in knitting and crocheting for other residents. She recently purchased garden gloves since she joined the gardening club; she enjoyed Bingo, Happy Hour; playing pool at the Pocket; and she really enjoyed the Lunch Bunch Monday lunches out.
She was the first Lady Elk of the Year in 1975 at the Boise Elks Lodge; Past President of Elkettes. She continued to be a part of the Elkettes at the Boise Elks Lodge. Members of the Lodge graciously continued to provide transportation for her to attend many functions at the Lodge until her declining health most recently. Thank you to the Boise Elks, she loved you all.
