Wallace "Wally" Edward Turk
Wally was born May 20th, 1938 in Tekoa, Washington; the second of five children born to Wallace E. and Martha L. Turk. He died July 21, 2014, at 12:45pm at St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Boise. Wally attended many schools in his early years as his father was in the military and posted throughout the United States until the family settled in Boise in 1953. He attended South Junior High School and graduated from Boise High School in 1956. After graduation he enlisted in the Air Force and served until discharged in 1961. Following his discharge he also served six years in the Idaho Air National Guard.
Wally was employed in a variety of federal agency positions after military service until he went to work for the Idaho Transportation Department in 1969 where he remained until his retirement in 1998. During his latter years with the State of Idaho he served as Volunteer Service Coordinator overseeing "Adopt a Highway Program" and recycle and litter programs.
After retirement, he was actively involved with the Idaho Special Olympics
, United Way and as a tour guide at the Old State Penitentiary where he particularly enjoyed giving tours to fourth and fifth grade students on field trips and in receiving letters from those children after the tours. He was also actively involved with the Granger Park Senior Community acting as their historian.
Wally is preceded in death by his father, mother and grandson, Joshua Wilkes.
He is survived by three sisters, Sally Cooper, Susan Wallace (Loren) and Sharon Schultz (Myles); one brother, Gary Turk (Mary); four children, Ann Turk Wilkes, Larry Turk (Theresa), Becky Smith (Troy) and Stephen Bishop; eight grandchildren, Zachery Wilkes, Matthew Wilkes, Kyle Turk, Kory Turk, Brandon Turk, Kaili Turk, Shaelyn Turk, and Chelsea Baker; five great grandchildren, Bethany Wilkes, Madisen Wilkes, Emily Wilkes, Cooper Wilkes and Lulu Mae Wilkes and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held today, Thursday, July 24, 2014, at 10:00am at Cloverdale Funeral Home. A reception will follow at another location. Interment of the urn will be held at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations on Wally's behalf should be made to the Idaho Food bank, the Idaho Youth Ranch, Boise Rescue Mission Ministries, Special Olympics or a
