Hazel Dunlap Obituary

Hazel Flora Dunlap was born with her identical twin, Dimple Dora, October 22, 1909 to Jesse and William A. Collins in Welda, Kansas. After prolonged illness and death of their beloved mother in 1918, Oly, Ray, Sarah, Hazel and Dimple lived in Colorado with their father. Nellie and Charlie were raised by Jesse's sister in Kansas. Despite deep hardship and separation, they remained an exceptionally close family. Hazel and Frank J. Smith were married in 1929 and daughter Edith was born in 1930 in Pueblo, CO. In 1941, Hazel and C.T. (Ted) Anderson were married and lived in Nutoma, Kansas. Their daughter, Beverly arrived in 1944. By 1953, the family moved to Nampa, Idaho where Hazel worked at Mercy Hospital, graduating with honors as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She received many thanks for her skill and professionalism for surgical, private duty and geriatric care. Hazel married Carl Dunlap in 1961 and they ranched in the Treasure Valley until his death in 1969, when she moved back to her home in Nampa. New Life began in 1967 when Hazel accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and Lord. She shared her blessings as a talented seamstress, quilt designer, crafter and cream pie specialist! Hazel's quilts are registered with the Idaho Historical Society. Most memorable were her church fellowship, home, flowers, family and friends, travel and her white ‘64 ½ Mustang. Her last years were at Heritage Retirement in Nampa; later receiving quality, thoughtful care at Life Care Center of Treasure Valley until her peaceful death there attended by Legacy Hospice on August 08, 2010. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, spouses and daughter Edith G. Gilbert. She is survived by Daughter Beverly and Son in Law Terry Wilson and Carl's Children, Mack Dunlap and Nancy Jordan; 5 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 P.M. Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010 at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. Graveside services will be held later at 3:30 P.M. Thursday at the Emmett Cemetery. Hazel was a wonderful lady. I will always remember her telling me "you know I'm a 100 yrs old" and that was when she was only 98. Everyone at Life Care Center of Treasure Valley will miss Hazel and we were all blessed to have known her.
