Joseph Braden Obituary

J. Pat Braden
1926 ~ 2013
J. Pat Braden, 87, of Boise, peacefully passed away on Saturday morning, Feb. 16, 2013, at his home. Pat was born on Jan. 7, 1926, in Weiser, Idaho, to Leroy and Anna Braden, as the youngest of six boys. His growing-up years were spent in Weiser on 2½ acres of land, with a large garden and lots of animals. He especially loved horses. Pat grew up during the depression. From his father, he learned to work hard and the importance of dedication to family and making life secure for them. Pat learned how to be frugal and to love and serve others from his mother.
Pat graduated from Weiser High School in 1943 and attended three months at College of Idaho. On Feb. 14, 1944, Pat entered the Marine Corp. He faithfully served in Guam, Iwo Jima, Japan, and China and was honorably discharged as a Corporal on June 12, 1946.
Pat met his wife, Lois Montgomery, at a roller skating rink in Weiser, Idaho, after he returned from serving in World War II. They were married on March 19, 1948, in Ontario, Oregon; and their marriage was later solemnized in the L.D.S. Salt Lake City Temple. Pat and Lois shared their lives together in Oregon and Idaho for almost 61 years, until Lois passed away in Feb. 2009.
Pat loved people, and he was loved by everyone he met. He was full of energy, had a great sense of humor, and was a continual optimist. Pat frequently expressed his love for his family, and he was a beloved Sunday school teacher of the youth for many years, a calling he thoroughly enjoyed. Pat continued to work until he was 83 years old. He especially loved his last position as what he called, "the Vice President of the Exterior," for Idaho Independent Bank.
Pat is survived by his five children: Diane (Brent) Belliston, Terry (Brenda) Braden, Cory Braden, Randy (Deana) Braden, and Lon Braden. He has 23 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Pat was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Cloyce, Harry, Earl, Carl, and Bill; and one grandson, Riley Belliston.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at the LDS Church off Vista Avenue at 3020 W. Cherry Lane, in Boise, Idaho. Friends may greet the family at the church from 11:00 a.m. - 11:40 a.m. prior to the funeral services. A private, family interment will be held on Monday at the Idaho State Veteran's Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Relyea Funeral Chapel.
The family would like to express appreciation to the employees of Idaho Independent Bank for their loving support and for providing weekly meals to Pat for the past four years. We also express appreciation to Pat's home nurse, Paris Morrow, who went above and beyond his duties to take the best care of our father. www.relyeafuneralchapel.com.

Pat Braden Family,
My dad, Bill Braden, was the second youngest of the Leroy Braden boys and was still ten years older than Uncle Pat. I remember my dad telling stories about his high school days when he was hanging out with his buddies. Grandma Anna would tell Bill to let his little brother, Pat, tag along. So Bill and his friends, would go fishing or swimming or hang around town with little Pat in tow. And according to my dad, even then, Pat was keeping everyone entertained. And my dad, as did all of us, oh so loved Pat's gentle and fun-loving nature.
Rest in Peace, Uncle Pat. We will always feel love and admiration for the life you lived.

With Love and Fond Remembrance,
Bill "Rocky" Braden

I was just thinking of Brother Braden about two weeks ago after not thinking of him for over thirty years. The thought that came to mind was, who has made a difference in my life by his words and deeds. Brother Braden was the name that came to my mind. He was our family's home teacher when I was apx seven years old. I have not seen him since seven years old. What a giant of a man!. God bless him and his family.

When I was young, I thought that you could tell how close someone was to God by how white his hair was. Pat Braden only proved that belief in my mind! There was never a doubt that he walked with God on a daily basis. He was a marvelous Sunday School teacher. Some might think he was trying to bribe us with the candy he was always handing out, but we would've loved him anyway! He was still giving me candy at church when I was a young, frazzled mother of 5 boys in my 30's... always with that same great smile! It meant the world to me when he would say he was proud of me... and even more when he'd give me a hug and tell me that I was one of his most favorite people. I can only say "ditto" Bro. Braden! I will miss your hugs... And I hope someday my hair is as white as yours, my friend. Thank you for your shining example. I can't wait to see you again on the other side....

So sorry to hear about the passing of Brother Braden. I was glad he was there on our Scout trip one time. I didn't always get along with some in our group, but he was my friend that trip. We both slept in the car while the rest were in tents at the Indian Bathtubs. What a great leader and what a great man!

Dear Family of Bro. Pat Braden:
My fondest memory of Bro. Braden was when I was a child. Every Sunday he would pick my brother and I up and take us to church. He would give us a pie afterward. At the time it was the only thing that motivated me to go to church.
I credit being an active member of our church today to him. My husband and my children are members only because of him. In my wandering journey to find God in my life, Bro. Pat Braden gave me the best foundation he could. I appreciate him more than anyone could imagine. I was hoping to tell him so when I came out there this summer, and am saddened I didn't get the chance. He was always happy and smiling. I will never forget him.

I didn't know your dad, but as a pedestrian comuter, for years I passed the little house in the lot of the Independent Bank and a cheery friendly man would say hello and the remainder of my walk would be a bit lighter. I offer my condolences and hope you are not offended that a stranger would write. But what a special person who could brighten this world so easily and leave us all with a warm smile.

Joseph , I never met you but I met your son Cory. My husband Alex, myself and our 3 children lived in Woodland, Ca. in 1975.Alex was a new autoshop teacher at Woodland High School. We had no sooner moved in when 2 young LDS Missionaries found their way into my kitchen. My kids let them in.They asked me what was important to me and I told them happiness and my family. They set up a meeting and before they came back, they were changed out by 2 new missionaries. We ended up with Elder Mc Fadden and your son Cory to teach us the Gospel of Jesus Christ. My family was baptized on Jan 3, 1976. We were sealed as a family Mar 17, 1977.My family will be eternally grateful that you taught Cory the Gospel.Cory and I lost track of each other for a long time. I lost my sweet husband Feb 24th of 2004. But I know I will see him again.I found Cory on Facebook almost 2 years now and we send messages back and forth. My kids are active, and my youngest daughter is having her first child,a boy, in July and he will be born under the covenant because you taught Cory well.I am looking forward to our big reunion when it;s my time.Thank you.

Uncle Pat was one of those exceptional people that lifted others just by his presense. He was always the "highlight" of our family reunions. He will be remembered for his optomism and kindness, and for his love of the Gospel and family. We love you Uncle Pat.

The first time I met him was in 1963 where we were on the same couple's bowling league. Never did I imagine that his only daughter would marry my Brother, Brent. Pat has always been so cheerful and friendly and how we will miss his big smile and fun personality! A great man and what a wonderful daughter he raised who is so loved by our family!

Uncle Pat was such a beautiful person. He always had a great sense of humor but was such a gentleman, you couldn't help but love him. He is the last of the "Braden Boys" to leave us. I can only imagine the celebration in heaven now that he's home. God Speed Uncle Pat. We love and miss you already.
