Donald Ray Waltman was born in Nampa, ID on May 29, 1933 to Virgil and Almeda Waltman. Don's mother died when he was very young and he was raised by his grandmother on the Gibbens homestead on Karcher Road in Caldwell.
Don also spent several years living with aunts and uncles. While living with his aunt, Elsie Babock; whom he always maintained a very close relationship with and even thought of her son, Wendell, as a brother; he attended Boise Senior High School, graduating in 1951, and then went to Idaho State College, Pocatello, for a year.
Don then worked for Aerial Mapping Co., Boise from 1954 - 1959, followed by the Idaho Department of Transportation from 1959 - 1964.
On February 28, 1963, Don married Bernadene Hopkins.
In February 1964, Don began his career as a licensed Funeral Director and worked for Cloverdale-Gibson Funeral Home for 32 years, formally retiring in December 1995. Don continued to help with Funeral Services and Grief Support through 2012.
Don is survived by his stepchildren Kathe Rafe, Stephanie Petterson, and Samuel Petterson; brothers, Richard Waltman, Eldon Waltman, and his sister Faye Sturgis; as well as 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and several aunts and uncles.
Don is preceded by his wife, Bernadene; stepson, Kirby Crandall; and his parents and one sister.
Don was dearly loved and cherished by his stepchildren and family. His grand and great grandchildren loved and cherished their time with him. They could get him to do almost anything. He would play his harmonica while his granddaughter stood on a stool and directed him, she was 1, and as all of them were, she was the boss when it came to grandpa.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 20, 2013 at Cloverdale Funeral Home. To share memories with the family you may visit Don's memorial page at www.cloverdalefuneralhome.com
