James Essinger Obituary

James Gustav Essinger
1958 - 2014
James Gustav Essinger, beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, went to be with the Lord at age 56 on Dec. 8, 2014. James was born April 5, 1958 in Belle Fourche SD and grew up in Bismarck ND, Yankton SD, and Pocatello ID, where he attended Pocatello High School and met the love of his life, Tami. They married in 1979 and were blessed with three wonderful sons. He earned a BA in Music Education and an Associates Degree in Systems Engineering at Idaho State University and taught music in Idaho Falls for one year before moving to Fruitland and becoming a computer programmer. He worked for Western Power Sports in Boise and lived in Fruitland ID until his time of passing.
James is survived by his wife, Tami; parents Donald and Letha; three sons: Joshua (wife: Rachel), Jacob, and Zachary; and grandchildren Zoe and Kolby, as well as his brother Mike and sisters Sandy and Helen. He is also survived by cherished exchange students from Germany, Korea, and Romania. He was also a father figure to many young people who were welcomed at his home.
James used his faith and musical talents to support and inspire many, including the people of the Fruitland United Methodist Church, Walk to Emmaus, and Kairos Prison Ministry. He took great joy in collecting and playing Magic the Gathering: the card game with his friends and family. He used his beautiful tenor voice in the Treasure Valley Community Choir and directed the Fruitland United Methodist Choir. He also described himself as a "semi-amature magician" and was a decidedly eloquent guitar player.
A memorial service will be held in his honor in Fruitland United Methodist Church at 317 SW 2nd St, Fruitland, ID at 2 pm. The family requests that in lieu of flowers or other gifts, donations be made to Idaho Kairos Prison Ministry so as to continue in the good work that he had dedicated so much of his energy toward. Donations can be sent to PO Box 791 Nampa ID 83653.

I only worked with Jim for five years, but he was so easy-to-know that I felt we had known each other for years. He was such a kind and gentle man. He gave so much of himself to others. He will be greatly missed and always remembered!!!

I was very fortunate to have known Jim, even if it was for just a short time. I always enjoyed talking to him as he made you feel like he was genuinely interested in what you were saying. I will miss seeing him every week.

Jim was one of the best people I have ever known. I enjoyed working with him at the Student Loan Fund and also at Western Power Sports. He will be missed greatly and I know he impacted everyone he met with his kind heart and soft manor. Laura and I wish well to Tami and his family.

Jim was larger than life! He was such a wonderful singer in the Youth Choir and the Pocatello United Methodist Church back in the 70's and made choir and youth group fun. It was great to live just up the hill from him, seeing him at school and at church.

I was blessed to have known Jim over these past many years! I can't imagine this place without him...But I know he is safe, free from pain and at home with Jesus. I will especially miss singing and playing music with Jim and the incredible duets that we did over the years at Walk to Emmaus, Gatherings and Candlelight's. I will keep you all in my prayers and ask God to give you comfort and peace.

Although I knew jim a very short time I will always hear him leading the inmates and members of kairos prison ministry in songs that uplift those that are looking to climb out of the hole they are so tired of being in. I meet jim in 1994 at my weekend with walk to emmaus, along with his beautiful parent, Don and Leatha. I knownthat right now jim is leading the band and chior as other saints are coming into heaven. When we see him again ill be the one hooping and hollering at the music because I know whos leading the procession. My thoughts and prayors of comfort and peace rest with the ones that are left behind . Gods riches blessings on those that loved him for who he is and what hes done fir the kingdom of heaven.
