Viola Huber Obituary

Viola M. Huber
1912 - 2012
A viewing for Viola M. Huber, 99, who died Wednesday November 7 at home in Emmett will be held Friday Nov. 9 from 4:00 until 8:00 pm Friday and the family will receive friends during those hours at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday Nov. 10 at the Emmett Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church in Emmett.
Viola was born on November 26, 1912 at Plankinton, South Dakota. She was the second daughter of Martin and Nettie Winkel Williamson. The doctor was at a Thanksgiving dance and didn't arrive in time for her birth.
When Viola was 5 years old the family moved to a farm near Vale, SD. She received her grade school education in a little one room country school. She graduated from Newell High School and from Spearfish Normal School, now Black Hills Teacher's College. After teaching several years Viola took nurses training at Colorado Training School, affiliated with Denver General Hospital. After graduating from nurses training she worked at a small hospital in Flagler, CO. It was while there that she met her future husband, Oscar Huber. They were married Oct. 3, 1943 at Vale, SD. by Viola's father in the little country church which he pastored for 40 years.
They lived in Arriba, CO and Elizabeth, CO for 10 years and that was where their 3 children were born Norman, Arleen and Rodney.
After moving to Emmett, ID in 1953 Viola worked at Mary Secor Hospital and later at Walter Knox Hospital for many years, retiring in 1977. She had a real love of nursing and the people she worked with.
Viola enjoyed the simpler things in life. She enjoyed sewing and made most of their children's clothing for many years, later she sewed for her grandchildren. She loved to raise a garden and flowers. She spent many hours in God's great outdoors. Her last garden was when she was 99 years old. Part of the joy of raising a garden was sharing with others.
Viola was a member of the First Presbyterian Church; she had taught Sunday school and served as both an Elder and a Deacon.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years Oscar; her parents Martin and Nettie Williamson, Brother William Williamson and his wife Marjorie, brother-in-law Erwin Nielson, daughter-in-law Loretta Huber and brother-in-law Wayne Joyce, and a sister-in-law Mildred Williamson. She is survived by three children and their families son Norman Huber and his children Amelia (Steve) Sears , and their children Anthony, Pat, Cindy Huber and her son Joe; daughter Arleen Huber and son Rodney (Lois) Huber and their children Ashlee (Andy) Bloomquist, Ryan (Lauren) and Ali and her son Mason, sisters Mildred Joyce of Issaquah, WA and Winnette Nielson of Fort Collins, CO, a brother Daryld Williamson of Vale, SD, 5 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins all who held a special place in Viola's heart.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Emmett or to a favorite charity.
