Bernice Kennedy Obituary

Bernice M. (Lee) Kennedy 1923-2009 Bernice Marie (Lee) Kennedy, 86, of Nampa died Sept. 27, 2009 at her home in Nampa after a short illness. Bernice was born Aug. 8, 1923 in Big Flat, Ark., the only daughter of Walter and Gertrude McLone. She grew up and attended school in Arkansas and Missouri. Bernice married Buford Lee Aug. 4, 1941. This union was blessed with three sons and an infant daughter who died two weeks after her birth. Shortly after their marriage Bernice and Buford moved to the Oregon Coast where Buford worked until he entered the Army in WWII. After the war Bernice and Buford settled in Melba where they raised their sons and lived until 1962. In 1962 Bernice left Melba and moved to California. Some time later she married Marion Kennedy. In 1977 Bernice and Marion left California and moved to Nampa so Bernice could be close to the family she loved. Bernice was an avid bowler and enjoyed her bowling friends and traveled often to bowling tournaments. Bernice is survived by her husband, Marion of Nampa, three sons Bob and Marita of Boise, Tom and Bonnie of Emmett and Chet and Kathy of Nampa, a brother Carmie and Judy of Pacific, Mo. and a sister Estella Watson of Glennville, Ga., eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, her parents, a sister and a grandson. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Carol Groat for caring for Mom during her illness. And a special thanks to A Promise of Hope Hospice and Victoria, Lori and Jennifer who were true angels of mercy over the past two weeks that Mom was home. A graveside service is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, 1 p.m. at the Melba Cemetery followed by a memorial service, 2 p.m. at the Melba Friends Church. Services under the direction of Bowman Funeral Parlor, Garden City.

Aunt Bernice was always one of my favorites.. She had told me and my sisters that we were her girls. She cared so deeply for us when my mom was dying and I will never forget her. She was such an inspitation for us all. She never stopped living life to the fullest. I have such fond memories of her from the earliest years of my life. She always made you feel welcome and loved. I will miss her dearly. She was a very special lady to me.
Love you all! Judy Yoakum

Our Thought's and Prayers are with all of you! I only wish that I could be there with you, but I hope that somehow I can in your hearts. Know that I am thinking of you all every day. What a strong, and vibrant woman Aunt Bernice was. I can't help but remember the many different times she would come to GA to visit, or the time we Flew out to Idaho to visit. There was none quite like Aunt Bernice, her strength, love for bowling, and love for her family is what made her such a special person. She will be missed!
Love you all!

A note to send you our condolences. Bernice was a great lady and a special friend. She will be missed.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

We so wish we could be with you at this time. But know that in our hearts, we are there in spirit and we lift all of the family up in prayer.
I'm reminded of a poem called the, "The Broken Chain" and the last few verses go, "Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same. But as God calls us one by one, the Chain will link again."
The hope I cling to is that one day we'll all join together in heaven with Jesus, the ONE who loves us most. God be with all of you.
Love you much, Judy & Carmie
