David Oberbillig Obituary

David Erich Oberbillig 1948 - 2011 David Erich Oberbillig, 62 of Canungra Queensland Australia died of cancer on February 10th, 2011 at the Gold Coast Hospital in Southport Queensland. He was born July 25, 1948 to Donald and Lesley Oberbillig in Boise, Idaho. His parents operated a two-way radio service for guest ranches, pilots, and mining operations, so he grew up roaming the foothills above Table Rock. As a young man David enjoyed working at the family mines near Yellow Pine and also at the Shepp Ranch on the North Fork of the Salmon River. He loved the outdoors. As an adult he had many adventures living in California, Seattle, and Idaho. In 1988, he migrated to Australia and worked at various mines doing survey work. Most recently, he was enjoying his retirement living in Canungra Queensland at a beautiful place out in the country. He loved sitting on his veranda enjoying a "fine wine" and calling the many family members and friends he kept in contact with. My dad is described by all as a caring, easy going man with a heart of gold who loved to pass along a good joke. His phone calls will be missed by us all, and as he would say, "see ya "round the ridges"! He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Lesley Oberbillig, and brother John "Jack" Oberbillig. He is survived by his daughter, son in law, and granddaughter, Allesha, Michael, and Mia Green of Boise, step daughter Laura Alexandra Herrera of Oaxtepec Mexico and family, brothers Donald Dale (Cate) Oberbillig, Robert Leslie (Judi) Oberbillig, and sister Charlotte Hess all of Oregon.

Larry forwarded this obituary to me recently. The last time I saw David was at Larry and Carolyn's house, long ago, and I think he was startled when I greeted him with "Wiggy!" I'm sorry to see that he has passed away but glad to see mention of the rest of you. Charlotte, we are still at the same place and would love to hear from you. Nancy (Nolan) Hall

We will miss Wiggy very much, in the 40's they lived up the street from us I also hunted with Dave at Loon Creek when we worked for MFL KOI811 on Mountain Msgs. We also used to see him and his little girl when they lived Merdian years ago. I may still have some photos of Dave if his girl wants copys. We did not know Billie had also passed. Call if you want to go for coffee or talk. Larry and Carolyn Good

I never met David but I worked for his Mom "Billy" on the back country radio and one incident comes to mind, David was on the radio earlier than Bille and was talking to a girl friend when Bille came on and said in a "sweet" tone "Good morning David" David replied in little boy tone "Good morning Mommy", that ended his conversation with the girl.
Jim Larkin was so pleased to hear from David when he called Jim not long before he passed away. My prayers are with the family. Bev Larkin
