David John Lawlis
David John Lawlis, 85, of Boise, Idaho, passed away Friday, December 27, 2013 after an extended illness.
David was born July 3, 1928 in Nampa, Idaho, a son of Howard and Marguerite Lawlis. He received his education in Nampa, graduating from Nampa High School. Following graduation, David's first job was at Sears, and it was the start of his career in sales. It was also where he met his future wife, Evelyn McNees. They were married in Everett, WA in 1949.
During the Korean Conflict, Dave enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. It was there that their daughter Diane was born. This was an especially happy time in his life.
Following his discharge from the Air Force, David continued his career in sales and joined Montgomery Wards where he held the position of National Furniture Buyer. He held this position until his retirement, but immediately joined Sealy, Inc. and traveled the Bay area. David was a member of International Executive Service Program and traveled to Slovakia to serve as a manufacturing and marketing advisor to a local furniture manufacturer.
David always remembered his roots in Idaho and returned to Boise to enjoy his retirement years. Rather than remain retired, he started his own business, "Employment Consulting Services", designed for computer training and basic office skills for those reentering the work force.
David loved to travel, and he and Evelyn had the opportunity to travel to several European countries and the Orient. They also had the pleasure of taking their daughter to Paris and the Dordogne Valley, where his Mother was born.
Fishing, camping and the outdoors were all favorite activities that he enjoyed. He loved his family pets and many stray animals were adopted into the family.
David is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Boise, ID; a daughter, Diane of Costa Mesa, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was extremely proud of all of his family.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Friday, January 3, 2014 in the Park Center Ward L.D.S. Chapel, located at 2300 Bergeson Street, Boise. The family will greet friends from 11:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services on Friday. Graveside services with military honors will be held at the Idaho State Veteran's Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Relyea Funeral Chapel.
