David Higginson Obituary

David Lee Higginson 1943 - 2011 Our Father in Heaven chose Easter Sunday to call our dear husband, father, and grandfather home. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family from the effects of cancer. David was born October 3, 1943 in Nampa, Idaho to John Detton and Merle Harris Higginson. He was a valiant member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served a mission to New Zealand from 1962-64. He had a deep faith in his Savior, Jesus Christ and shared his love for Christ with his family and countless others. While attending BYU, he met and married his sweetheart, Louise Lewis. They were sealed for time and all eternity on June 2, 1967 in the Salt Lake Temple. Music was the essence of his life. He was an amazing choir and orchestra teacher in Utah and Idaho, a musician, songwriter, and arranger. His children's treasured memory is singing around the piano on Sunday evenings. He was the creator of The Professional Chord System and touched the lives of so many people as he traveled around the country to share his gift. He is survived by his wife, Louise and 9 children, David (Heidi), Michael (Marci), Amy (Brenden) Clements, Rebekah (Jim) Edwards, Brian (Lisa), Julie, Linda (Danny) Stauss, Robert, and Jared. Funeral services will be on Friday, April 29 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Church located at 450 S. Canyon Dr. Springville, UT 84663. Viewings will be held on Thursday, April 28 from 6-8:00 p.m. as well as before the funeral from 9-10:45 a.m. in the same location. Interment will be at the East Lawn Cemetery in Provo, Utah after the funeral services. Services are in the care of Premier Funeral Services. Friends and family may read more of David's life at www. premierfuneral.com. The family would like to thank the caregivers from Vista Care Hospice for the loving service given to our husband and father.

What a wonderful funeral service for David today. His 9 children all spoke and shared their personal feelings of their father. They, and their spouses, sang a wonderful arrangement of "Come, Come Ye Saints". The opening hymn was "Sweet is the Peace the Gospel Brings" ... referred to by David as his feelings towards his earthly life as it was coming to a close. The touching song, "Through the Eyes of a Child", written by David and recorded by himself in 1976, was played for all to hear. There were many, including myself, who wept. Louise was a wonderful example of love and graciousness throughout the entire day. My prayers will be for her as she faces the continuation of her life without her beloved companion ... until they are together again. May the Lord's choicest blessings be with Louise, the children, their spouses, and the grandchildren. David's legacy and example of love will live on forever in their hearts. I feel privileged to call David my friend, as well as my cousin.

My heart aches for Louise and her family. My brother in law, David, was a "really good" person in every way. I miss him very much and always appreciated his wit and wisdom and upbeat personality. You could never feel angry in his presence because he was such a positive person and made everyone feel included and happy. He is truly a saint and devoted disciple of Christ. I pray for peace and comfort for Louise and their wonderful family. I love you all.

I send my love to Louise and the Higginson family. David taught my daughter Joanna with great enthusiasm and encouragement, as he did me in my teaching career. I taught his chord course over the years with great success to my students and college students. He has left a legacy of love and joy to all. I will miss him greatly.

I am so grateful for Uncle David's example of faith and love. We are heartbroken that he is not here anymore, but we know that he was well prepared to go. We love him and we miss him. We are praying for Aunt Louise and all of our beloved cousins, his children. We love you all so much.
