Evelyn Marie Layher Anderson 1915 - 2012 Evelyn Marie Anderson, 97, of Boise, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2012 at her home. Evelyn was the third child of Charles Ludwig Layher (183-1963) and Grace McMillan Layher (1885-1978). She was born on March 7, 1915 on a farm in Nebraska. Her early life was filled with the farm communities many nationalities and immigrants. She loved school and the friends she made there. The neighbors in their community were the most important people to know and to help. She worked for many of her neighbors until she met and married her lifetime partner, Carl Lawrence Anderson, (1912-2007) July 13, 1935. In 1945 she went to Beautician School in Grand Island, NE., it would be a fulfillment of her ability to make peoples hair beautiful. In 1948 they took a trip to California via Idaho. They found in Idaho a beautiful country and they promptly moved here. In Idaho she worked for a while in the beautician's school run by Mrs. Anacabe. When the polio epidemic broke out she worked as an aide at the Elks Convalescent Home helping the polio victims recover. Wanting to go into the beauticians work again, she opened her own shop in 1961. She ran a successful business, Evelyn's Salon, until 1978 when she retired. Their retirement years were spent traveling. They often visited family in various parts of the United States, Canada, Hawaii, Tennessee, Nebraska, and all of the western states. Gardening, music, crocheting, and cooking was part of her life. But her true passion was making peoples hair beautiful for any occasion or just keeping their hair in trim. Her family was always involved in her life and she always tried to stay connected with them. Tenacious and resilient are words to describe her life and legacy. Their daughter Carolene Bakkila was the beginning of a large family. It includes grandchildren: Carrie, Francis (deceased), Jay K., Susan, Lisa, Jan, Chris, Lauri and Lytti, 17 great-grandchildren, 27 great-great-grandchildren. Also, surviving is one sister-in-law, Catherine Layher. Carl and Evelyn also have many nieces and nephews in Nebraska and the Midwest. Preceding her was her sister, Isabelle Ooley (Ray), brothers, Sherman Layher, Woodrow Bill Layher (Mary), sisters-in-law, Lucy Hoon (Ray), Anna Scott (Cliff), Elvira Stensvade (John), Agnes Baldwin (Martin) and brother-in-law, Morris Anderson (Edna). Also, preceded in death was great grandsons Ben Hawkins, Sam Hawkins, Sons-in-law, Eugene Ilett, James Bakkila, and grandson-in-law Ken DeCent.
