Katherine Best

Katherine Best May 9, 2011 Katherine Best, former Boise resident, died in Flagstaff, Arizona, on May 9, 2011. Katherine and her late husband of sixty-six years, John H Best, Boise State Professor Emeritus, were long time members of the Boise music community. Katherine taught piano, played organ for church services, and accompanied countless young musicians. In Flagstaff, Katherine played for weekly Episcopal services at the Peaks. Katherine and Jack enjoyed travel and spent time touring the United States, Europe, and Central America and the Far East. Katherine was a member of the Episcopal Church, PEO Chapter R, Tuesday Musicale, and the Boise Valley Handweaver's Guild. She had a life-long interest in reading, literature and ideas. Katherine's legacy lives in her three daughters, Karen Clarke, violinist and professor; Margaret Wells, Orff educator and musician; and Mary Nebel, educator and musician. She is survived by her daughters, their husbands, Dave Nebel (Mary), George Riordan (Karen), and Larry Wells (Margaret) and three grandchildren, Eric Nebel and Daniel Wells of Seattle and Catherine Bingle of Austin, TX. A memorial service was held May 14, in Flagstaff. Katherine will be interred with her husband at Saint Michael's Cathedral. Contributions in her memory can be made to the John and Katherine Best Scholarship at Boise State University, or the American Heart Association.
