Leslie Claire Blitman|
1958 ~ 2014
Leslie Claire Blitman was born in Encino, California on November 8, 1958. She passed away on August 15, 2014, having succumbed to AML (Acute Myelogenous Leukemia) at her parents' home in Boise, Idaho. Leslie, as a native Californian, enjoyed living there for most of her life. She also lived in American Samoa for two years as a young child and grew up in Hawaii. She was a 1976 graduate of Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii, and as she noted: "the same school attended by President Barack Obama."
Leslie graduated from the University of Hawaii-Manoa with a self-designed degree in the Business of Book Publishing. After moving back to California, she worked as a book buyer and manager of the computer section at Kepler's Books in Menlo Park. She then spent more than 20 years as a Computer Resource Specialist for the University of California Press in Berkeley, combining the business of book publishing and education. Leslie wrote a column, "Printout" for a section of the Palo Alto Weekly.
Leslie's first love was Seth Goldberg, who died early in his life. John Hevelin was her truelove and a devoted partner during their relationship of more than 20 years.
Leslie was an avid reader and collector of books as exhibited by her extensive and varied library. Her hobbies included knitting, spinning, quilting, stamping, drawing and baking. She had a lifelong affection for her cats. Special cats over many years included Sam and Mama Cat (in Hawaii), as well as Misty, Meery, Japhy and GoGo (during her years in California).
Leslie was preceded in death by her grandparents David and Clara Blitman in Pennsylvania and William and Helen Jones in Nebraska; aunt Sandy Grossman in Florida; and Seth Goldberg and John Hevelin in California.
She is survived by parents Elaine and Bill Blitman of Idaho; her younger brother Dan, his wife Brenda Blitman and nephews Max and Calvin of Idaho. Leslie is also survived by her uncle Bill (Jane) Jones of Washington and Nebraska; uncle Charles (Phyllis) Blitman of Pennsylvania; uncle Jack Grossman of Florida; cousins Mike (Debi) Jones of Nebraska; Linda (Dennis) Fouty of Texas; Robert (Betsy) Grossman of Pennsylvania and Ken (Jackie) Grossman of Connecticut.
A memorial observance is planned for November in California. It was Leslie's wish that remembrances might be made to a cat rescue organization.
