Miss Raymer was my homeroom teacher in 1961 when I enrolled as a freshman at Rogers High School in Spokane. It was during the 1963 year that she announced her marriage and became Mrs. Eaton. What a buzz that created for thirty or so junior girls in her charge. She was a polished and concise librarian, efficient and capable in times of academic inquiry, but I remember her best for the times when the personal, the confidential, and the empathic side of this dear lady came to the fore. With an easy but library-appropriate laugh and ready smile, she was a constant comforting presence during four years of our lives that saw impactful changes in America. I only wish I had gone back to visit her, or written my gratitude... I hope she knew.
