Margaret Ellen Gough

Margaret Ellen Gough, formerly of Parma, Idaho, passed away at Spring Creek Memory Care in Fruitland, Idaho on July 29, 2016 with her daughter Terry and granddaughter Meg at her side. Margaret was the second child born to Everett B. and Mable J. Knipe. She spent her early life in Sweet, Idaho and later her family moved to an 80-acre ranch outside of Nampa, Idaho.
Margie attended Nampa Jr. and Sr. High Schools grades 9-12 and went to the College of Idaho. She was a member of the College of Idaho Alumni Association.
While at the College of Idaho, Margie met Theron McParlin Gough on a blind date and married him August 23, 1946. Theron and Margie settled in Parma, Idaho where Theron carried on working with the family newspaper, the weekly Parma Review. Margie reported and wrote news articles and when Theron passed in 1979, she took over the paper and ran it for 7 years. Margie was a member of the Idaho and National Press Associations. There were three children born to them; Teresa Ellen, Theron Thayne Timothy McParlin and Thomas Everett.
Margie was a woman of faith and very active in the Kirkpatrick Memorial Presbyterian Church in Parma and the Presbytery Governing Body of Boise, Kendal and Southwest Oregon Presbyteries. Her faith was an important part of her life.
Margie had a great sense of civic service and served on a variety of advisory boards and was active in many local and county groups and activities as well as a founder of the annual celebration of Old Fort Boise Days, Parma.
She organized the First Republican Women's Group of the Treasure Valley. She was a register of elections for many years and was a head election judge.
Margie was very artistic and liked to paint with oils/water colors and draw. She was an avid reader, enjoyed historical novels, political subjects and works on religion. Margie enjoyed cooking, hosting family get-togethers, especially Christmas Eve, and caring/growing flowers. She and Theron shared a love of music and Margie often had music playing at home throughout the day.
Margie was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Theron; both parents; mother-in-law, Gertude Gough Brandt; one sister-in-law, Maxine Brandt and her husband, Vilas; niece, Karen Brandt MacGuffie; brother-in law, Elwood Gough and his wife, Paloma and a brother-in-law, Delmar Tarlenton.
She is survived by a brother, George Dan Knipe; sister, Myrna Elizabeth Tarleton; daughter, Teresa Warrington (Sam); son, Theron Thayne (Lisa) and son, Thom. Margie is also survived by grandchildren: Andrew and Meagan Warrington, Jeff and Jeremy Veach; great-grandchildren, Gage and Aria Warrington and 10 nieces and nephews. The family wishes to especially thank the staff of Spring Creek Senior Assisted Living and Memory Care and the Encompass Hospice nurses and staff for providing a home and caring so lovingly for our mother. Memorial and celebration of life services will be held Monday, August 22 at 11 a.m. at Parma Kirkpatrick Presbyterian Church. A private family burial will take place prior. Donations can be made to the Parma Presbyterian Church, The College of Idaho or your favorite charity in Margie's name.

I will miss my Aunt Margie so much. She was always so loving and supportive - a true lady and huge asset to Parma, Southwest Idaho, and her family and many friends. Love you, Margie. Godspeed.
