Mark Thomas Urban

Mark Thomas Urban, Smokejumper Spotter, died in the line of duty Friday September 27, 2013.
Mark was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on August 16th, 1973 to Thomas and Pamela Urban. He was married to the love of his life Rebecca Urban on September 27, 2008.
Mark graduated from East Longmeadow High School and received a degree in Building Materials and Wood Technology from the University of Massachusetts. He served his country in the Massachusetts Air National Guard from 1991 to 1997.
Mark began his career as a wildland firefighter for the US Forest Service in 1999. In 2003 he joined the Bureau of Land Management's Great Basin Smokejumpers. Mark was a well-respected leader in the wildland firefighting community.
Mark had a great passion for life and the outdoors. He was an avid bicyclist and contributor to the Boise Bicycle Project. He enjoyed riding the trails surrounding Boise and commuted to work in all weathers. Mark loved making music with his friends. He strummed a lovely melody both on his guitar and mandolin. On his motorcycle, snowboard, in the river, on a hunt, while keeping bees or working in his shop you would invariably see Mark's infectious smile penetrating his Yeti beard.
Mark's upbringing enriched him with a strong sense of family. Mark used this strength to build lasting friendships tracing from his roots in Massachusetts to his brethren in the smokejumper community. Mark inspired people.
Mark is survived by his wife Rebecca Urban; parents Thomas and Pamela Urban; sister Sara (Gabriel Quaglia); nephew and best buddy Gavin Quaglia; grandmother Evelyn Urban; mother and father - in- law Cynthia and Carl Ohlin ; sister - in - law Abigail (Allen Klinger); niece Avery Klinger ; sister - in-law Hannah (Brian Butler) .
Mark was preceded in death by his grandfather the late George Urban (husband to Evelyn Urban); and grandmother the late Evelyn Connors Williams.
A service in honor of Mark's life will be held at 2 pm. Friday, October 4th at the National Interagency Fire Center. Due to limited space at the memorial service, fire officials urge members of the public who wish to honor Mark Urban's life to pay their respects by lining the procession route from the Boise Funeral Home to the National Interagency Fire Center.
