Nyles Anderson Obituary

Nyles O'Dean Anderson 1944-2012 Nyles O'Dean Anderson, 67, died after a brief battle with liver cancer on February 22, 2012 in St. George, Utah. He was the second child of O'Dean and Vera Anderson. Nyles was born September 25, 1944 in Provo, Utah and grew up in Boise, Idaho. He graduated from Borah High in 1962, and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Finance in 1966, and an MBA in 1967 from the University of Utah. He worked for Morrison-Knudsen Co. for most of his professional career, designing and managing data processing installations for the offices in Boise and for various large projects including overseas assignments in Saudi Arabia and Colombia. After leaving MK, he assisted his father and brother in establishing a farm in EskDale, Utah. During the winters he travelled to Arizona and Mexico, enjoying the freedom of the high desert open spaces and practicing the Spanish he learned in high school. Nyles had great curiosity and wide-ranging interests. He especially loved boating, spending much time at Lake Powell and Lucky Peak Reservoir. He was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, and enjoyed the coastal islands of British Columbia and the San Juan Islands. He was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his sister Karen Anderson of Pocatello, Idaho; brother Jerald Anderson (Margo) of Eskdale, Utah; his daughter Michelle Butler (Randy) of Meridian, Idaho; grandsons, Matthew and Ryan Butler; niece, Elizabeth DeMille (Russ); and nephews Blaine Anderson (Sarah), Karl Anderson, and Brad Anderson. A private ceremony was held in EskDale, Utah on February 27th. Nyles was gifted in analyzing problems and devising creative solutions. His knowledge and experience was an asset to any situation he encountered. He loved to help anyone in need and he blessed us all.

Nyles was a great friend with a unique character, I will always remember the many good times Bobbie and I enjoyed with him and the gang at MK. After leaving Boise, I tried to contact Nyles, his relocation solves that mystery. We spent many hours on the Party II and at Victors enjoying his company. Our hearts go out to Gerald and the rest of the family.

It is with sadness that I read of Nyles' passing. He was charismatic, fun-loving, intelligent and kind. Though our friendship faded with the passage of time and changing of locations, I remember him fondly. My sympathy to his family, particulary Michelle, and his closest friend and brother Gerald.
