Ruth Bashford Obituary

Ruth T. Bashford 1925 ~ 2011 Ruth T. Bashford, died at Rosewind House in Garden City on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the age of 85. She was born November 5, 1925 in Iowa, the daughter of Elza and Lola (Whitener) Trafford. Ruth was raised in Iowa and attended college in Des Moines, focusing in music and voice. She moved to Anaheim, California in 1943 with a brother. Ruth married Lawrence "Spook" Bashford on January 1, 1947 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They raised their daughter, Connie (born 1947) and son, Larry (born in 1950) in Anaheim. The family moved to Vale, Oregon in 1968 when the youngest of the 3, Doug (born in 1962) started 1st grade. During the California years she was predominately a homemaker, busy sewing, attending ball games, and visiting various relatives in the area. She was the 1950's equivalent of today's "soccer mom". The Oregon years she was a business owner along with Lawrence. The Golden Slipper and Thunderegg Room was a bar and restaurant in Vale that they owned and operated from 1968-1980. There she was involved with all restaurant operations and where she learned to shoot pool, became a rock-hound, and toll painted when she could. Most of the 80's were spent in Ohio with Lawrence's family. Once Doug settled in after college, she and Lawrence returned to Boise. While in Boise, both Ruth and Lawrence did some volunteer work with the food bank during their retirement years. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Connie of Williams, Arizona; sons, Larry of Jackson, Wyoming and Doug of Boise, Idaho; granddaughters, Kelsie and Abbi Bashford of Boise and Jill Greddy of Williams, Arizona; and grandson, Garrett Greedy of Tucson, Arizona. She is also survived by her brothers, Clarence of Salt Lake City, Utah and William of Pensacola, Florida; and a sister, Laura of Sparks, Nevada. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence and her sister, Lois. At her request there will be no services. She will be cremated and her ashes will be buried in Galion, Ohio next to her husband, Lawrence "Spook" Bashford.
